I'd call the courtyard by Marriott in Newcastle, DE and elegant disaster. I like the decor, the general setup, the innovative room arrangement and elegant fixtures, but: Items were already in poor repair or deteriorating; a toilet paper holder already in its last days; a few marks on the tony wall coverings. A coffee machine that quit after one cup of coffee! And then there's the food service. There may be some guests who enjoy being part of a captive clientele, with minimum $3 Starbuck's coffee, slow (about 40 minutes), limited food service (out of boiled eggs? Out of orange juice?) and extortionist pricing. I'll take a well-prepared, well-presented, simple continental breakfast any day. Which means I'll stay someplace else.

Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. It was loud and some other guest were bouncing between rooms till super late. Could hear doors slamming all around. The one smoking area had a loud person outside that I had to make a phone call to get the staff to take care of which they did soon after.

Fine hotel but staff lacking helpfulness
The hotel was fine. The bed was comfortable and the shampoo, etc. were well supplied and good. There were only two large towels for two people, I would have preferred one more. The staff though is where I had issues. At first they couldn't check in my guest in another room because she didn't have my credit card. I was arriving momentarily but they would not budge and made her check in when I arrived. Also they would not add my Hilton number to my room (I booked though third party). I always book through third party and all the Hiltons add my number so that I can have digital key, water bottle. I found these issues with the unbending and cold staff unpleasant.

A very quiet hotel while we were there with ample off street parking. All the indoor and photo murals were of the historic area and well done. Negatives for me: the bed had a sag in the middle, the bottom sheet did not stay on, very stiff and scratchy towels, and the dead bolt was almost impossible to close (took my husband throwing his shoulder into the door to do it).

Lighten up on the the TV in the breakfast area.
Everything was great except FOX News was playing all morning on the TV in the breakfast area. There were children that shouldn’t be exposed to that kind of ridiculousness. I couldn’t, wouldn’t eat with that on.

I had a dog problem, meaning they were barking for about 45 minutes and did not stop! I was told no other rooms were available and I will now ask about dogs on any stays. I love dogs but not barking dogs at the hotel I am staying at for peace and quiet!

Not comparable to other Hampton Inns. Breakfast was poor. Minimal selection. At 8:00 pancake batter out. Sausage was under cooked. Scrambled eggs were very runny. Just not up to Hampton Inn par.

Good place
Only good place in town to stay. All the other hotels are terrible. I guess that’s why they are a little spendy. The breakfast was okay, and not your typical continental breakfast but real eggs and ham. Employees were friendly and they didn’t ask for a pet deposit. Plenty of grass to walk your pet to go to potty. We always carry our own plastic bags to pick up the poop.

I’m not sure why this hotel was so expensive. It’s not nice and the town it’s in is small and doesn’t support charging this much. The only staff that was nice was the breakfast ladies.
