Last minute weekend getaway

Posted Feb 24, 2017
Pros: everything
Cons: more food availability in the bar after hours
Location: In the city centre, next door to the Palace and most tourist hotspots, as well as great restaurants.
I had a great opportunity to use my expedia points to book this hotel for a great price quite last minute. The hotel lived up to its expectations of being comfortable, exquisite and convenient. The great customer service actually began before the trip even started, with the management happily and easily acquiring me a theatre ticket at the last minute to an otherwise sold out show. Check in was a breeze and I was pleasantly surprised at the essentials in the room. Walking distance from Waverly train station, this was a no brainer. It is situated in the HEART of the city, streets away from everything you will need and want to be a part of. The food is great, especially Epicurean that highlights its amazing gin selections. I managed to get a massage in at the spa which I would highly recommend for the weary traveller. A perfect little weekend.

Nice, clean, quiet hotel with beautiful views.

Posted Feb 23, 2017
Our stay at this hotel was fantastic. It's very clean and quiet. Bed was amazingly comfortable. Hotel restaurant is very modern and spacious, we only had breakfast in there as we spent whole day outside sightseeing. But the breakfast was fantastic, massive choice of fresh food as well as a very good choice from the hot breakfast menu. Staff was very friendly and professional. I I ever go to Edinburgh again, I will definitely stay in the same hotel.

Arrived on rainy day with car loaded with luggage. Samantha (Sam) the receptionist greeted us with a smile and immediately organised valet parking and for luggage to be sent to our room. Sam showed us our room then organised a booking in the Hotel restaurant for later in the evening. Entering to the Hotels wonderful Epicurian cocktail bar we were greeted warmly by a friendly Spanish waitress who recommended gin cocktails and organised a snack from the tapas menu. Our table in Cocina, the Hotel Restaurant, was booked for 9PM. Once in the restaurant we were initially underwhelmed, mainly due to the large space which seemed more canteen than upmarket restaurant. However, the greeting we received from the staff more than made up for any initial disappointment in the venue. We ordered a bottle of Amorone after browsing the wine list sipping on a complimentary glass of Prosecco. The meal was delicious and as very nice touch, apparently due to the expensive(ish) bottle of wine we were drinking we received a complimentary cheese plate to finish off the wine. An all round excelllent night away from start to finish - thanks to the staff, especially Sam and her Spanish colleagues; G V provides service to rival any 5 star establishmen anywhere in Europe. well done, we will be back soon.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, great location

Posted Jan 27, 2017
Pros: Everything especially the friendliness of the staff and the hotel's location.
Cons: N/a
Location: The castle, St Giles, Mary King's Close, various walking and ghost tours, not to mention pubs and restaurants.
I spent a few days in Edinburgh and found this hotel by chance via Expedia. It looked clean, modern and was located within the old city so I booked it. However it was not until go there that I realised what a fabulous location it is. Literally minutes from the castle, St Giles, Mary King's Close, various walking and ghost tours, not to mention pubs and restaurants. The check-in was efficient and the staff very helpful and cheerful. The receptionist was quick to provide brochures of things to do that are safe and entertaining and offered recommendations based on own experiences of trying the tours. The suggested tour was indeed fabulous so glad I followed her advice. The room was lovely and clean with everything I needed. The food (breakfast) was amazing and staff again very welcoming. I would certainly stay at this hotel again and would/have recommended same to my friends.

Ok weekend stay

Posted Jan 23, 2017
First issue was on check-In when you have to have a credit card or leave £100 deposit. After explaining neither was possible they managed to sort something out. Never had this before anywhere and both room and breakfast were paid for. Room was ok. Neither really good or bad. Clean and modern. Shower was fab. Bed comfy. Coffee machine awful. Didn't work so asked for a replacement. That worked for one awful coffee and then packed in again. Pillows were too soft. I know this is personal preference so I asked for others at reception. They came really quickly but we're exactly the same as the first. I'd contacted the hotel in advance as we were celebrating and ťhey said they'd sort something and gave me a menu. It was £70 for champagne so we didn't bother. Hotel was in a good location and breakfast was fab. Apart from couple of minor issue there's nothing wrong with hotel. I was just disappointed that an expensive 5star stay was no better experience than a much cheaper hotel. Next time I'll save a few hundred quid and book a Travel Lodge and be no worse off.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We do ask for a holding of £50 per room per night to guarantee for any extras you may have during your stay. This also allows you to charge items back to your room. I apologise for the issues you faced - I will certainly pass these comments onto the relevant departments. I hope you enjoyed your time in Edinburgh. Best wishes, Sam

Pros: Staff made the experience personal
Cons: extra pillows in the rooms
Location: Central to most things, great location. Bus tours, restaurants, pubs, walking....great!
Immediate and friendly welcome from extremely helpful staff.Checking in was quick and painless. The room was fresh, clean and comfortable although a little smaller than expected. The bathroom was clean and tidy, no bath but lovely double shower and everything else you need. The bar was welcoming and the service was excellent. Great location, easy walking distance from everything and always a hearty welcome when you returned.

Great hotel in central location

Posted Dec 20, 2016
Pros: LOCATION!
Location: Centrally located in Old Town, but also easy to get to New Town.
We loved our stay! Location was ideal, right in the middle of town, easy access to everything, even New Town. Staff was wonderful and helpful. Breakfast buffet was great! Lots of delicious options in a nice part of the restaurant. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious for Europe/UK. We would definitely stay here again next time we're in Edinburgh.

Breakfast buffet had excellent choice but hot option was sub-standard both days which was a shame.
