What a transformation!
I last stayed here when this property was known as the Royal British Hotel, I remember the worn interiors. But now, fast forward a few years and look at this place! Everything has changed from the ground up, I particularly love the pictures and other decor around the stairs, can’t remember if they were there before. My room, with its faux bookcase surrounding the head of the bed, the mirrors, the retro telephone as well as the new addition of a fridge, absolutely wonderful! It’s hard to believe that this is the same property as before, well done to the owners for organising this refurb. No real problems with my stay this time, only major problem was that the bathroom window wouldn’t close, but as the weather was mainly warm and decent, this really didn’t bother me. Advice for anyone else, daily housekeeping service can be offered on request only during COVID-19, but the reception staff will tell you during check in.

Overnight stay in Edinburgh
We booked to stay here for an overnight break. Fantastic location - just 2 minutes walk from Waverley train station. Check in and check out was straightforward and great service both times from Louise - thanks! We were able to check in earlier than expected which was great. First impressions of room - clean but small. Could be done with updating as a couple of maintenance issues (large dip in mattress at 1 side, broken cupboard door) and lighting in room not good. Would have asked to change room but only discovered bed issue later at night after returning to room and we were only staying 1 night. View of Princes St from the room. No noise issues which was great, slept quite well. Bathroom was fine - walk in rainfall shower. No shampoo/conditioner in bathroom, only shower gel. We had breakfast in the morning and would highly recommend it. Great selection of items to choose from on the menu, everything was well cooked. The staff were lovely too. Overall I think this is a great base for a short stay in Edinburgh. With a few room updates, it would be fantastic.

Ok
We tried to call the hotel the evening before to enquire about an early check in and got no answer on 4 occasions so sent a message via messenger - we got a reply 2 days after our stay. Arrived at the hotel and dropped our bags off 3 hrs before check in. Everything seemed fine at this point. Went out and enjoyed Edinburgh City centre. Went back to the hotel just after check in time to find our suite wasn't ready and were given a complimentary drink in the bar. 2hrs later our suite was finally ready. I understand things happen but there was no indication that our suite wasn't going to be ready when we dropped our bags off. The hotel was nice if a little underwhelming. The staff were amazing and did everything they could to make our stay memorable. Laura on reception was brilliant and was very apologetic when our room wasn't ready. The whole team in the restaurant were on point and the food was fantastic.

For the money I paid for two nights I didn’t expect the room to have dirty tea stains up the wall or the room to not be serviced. The price also stated ‘castle view’.... this was only achievable if you pressed your head against the window... only then could you see it in the corner ... Very disappointed.
