Great hotel!

Posted Nov 2, 2016
Pros: The staff - outstanding!
Cons: The room was a bit on the small side, and no bath only shower.
Location: Many good local restaurants and the Georgian Town House attraction.
An excellent hotel. The staff are especially attentive and super friendly, felt very welcomed. The location is in a quiet street a few minutes walk from the main areas of new town, which meant it was very peaceful at night.

Thanks for your feedback, great to read you liked your room and our staff. As a listed and protected building we are not allowed to change the structure of our building and therefore sometimes the layout of our rooms is a little different and not all of our rooms can have bathtubs, they simply don't fit. We do have larger rooms, maybe next time you can check if there are executive rooms or suites available. Despite these issues we certainly look forward to welcoming you back. Chris and the Nira Caledonia team.

Best kept secret in Edinburgh

Posted Oct 29, 2016
Pros: Everything
Cons: I wouldn't change anything specific to the Hotel.
Nira Caledonia is one of the Small Luxury Hotels and one of only two listed for Scotland. It is a venue that has not forgotten that they exist to serve customers and they do this in a fashion I had long feared extinct. The service is impeccable, the staff friendly, and everyone was most helpful. Although our room faced the main street in front of the hotel, it was incredibly quiet. I first thought that double-glazing or soundproofing had been applied, but it is simply a quiet location. Every amenity and service was provided. The hotel was within walking distance of nearly everything on our itinerary and taxis were readily available for longer trips. The restaurant, Blackwell's, was excellent, and the service there was also above reproach. I simply cannot say enough good things about this hotel and it will certainly be at the top of our list for a venue when we return to Edinburgh. What a great little hotel! It's a gem among small hotels and the location in Stockbridge could not have been better for us. If you are looking for an example of what luxury hotel service should be, then Nira Caledonia is the right place to stay in Edinburgh.

Thanks for your feedback, great to read you liked our Stockbridge location. As a listed and protected building we are not allowed to change the structure of our building we can't have double glazing but as you pointed out our street is a very quiet one. Glad to read you enjoyed our Blackwood's Bar & Grill also. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back. Chris and the Nira Caledonia team.

Still the best boutique hotel in Edinburgh!

Posted Oct 9, 2016
Location: Short walk to up to Princes street. Immediate local area (New Town) has some fantastic hidden bars and cafes.Ask at reception for suggestions.
I am a regular visitor to the hotel but haven't posted a review for several years. I recently spent a night here, as I stopped overnight in Edinburgh whilst travelling in Scotland on business, and this time, I travelled there by car. It is still is the best hotel of its kind in Edinburgh. Rooms are well furnished and spotless, breakfast is included and is great. There is parking right outside the hotel, free from 6pm-8am (download the RinGo app for maximum efficiency, but the traditional ticket and phone payments are also available). Some of the single rooms can sometimes be a little small, but usually perfectly formed. So call the hotel in advance to find out first if you are the sort of person who requires lots of elbow room, or just avoid the singles. It's a short (<10 min) walk to Princes street and all the shops and bars, with some very nice places along the way. I've not tried the restaurant outside of the Breakfast, but if the same standard is maintained, then I would expect it to be very high. My only suggestion would be that a discrete bar would be a great addition.

Excellent stay at the Nura Camedonia!

Posted Oct 4, 2016
The hotel is located in a pristine and quiet neighborhood a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Staff were charming, friendly and accommodating. Restaurant served up delicious comfort food for weary travelers. Large bathrooms were well appointed, and beds comfortable. Be prepared to climb stairs as there was no elevator.

Thanks for your feedback, great to read you liked our Stockbridge location. As a listed and protected building grade A building we are not allowed to change the structure of our building and therefore do not have an elevator for which we warn on our website and in our confirmation letter for the same reason sometimes the layout of our rooms is a little different. Great to see you like the food we serve in Blackwood's Bar & Grill. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back. Chris and the Nira Caledonia team.

Lovely hotel in charming neighborhood

Posted Sep 14, 2016
We stayed for 3 nights as a family and booked 2 rooms. We loved the hotel, which has a great restaurant, friendly staff and is in a less touristy area. Some of the rooms can be quirky so if you are not ok with a small bathroom be sure to ask for details. Also a bit of a walk to the Royal Mile, though quite scenic and fun. A charming and very Scottish experience.

Good location, room disappointing

Posted Apr 15, 2016
Layout of our suite was poor. Large space but nowhere to place our suitcases but on the floor. Tiny wardrobe with only a few hangers. Tiny bathroom yet an adjacent room empty other than a jacuzzi tub. The bedroom portion of the room was lovely with a view to the garden, nice light with large windows and a skylight. The bed was comfortable. The location was great. We really enjoyed exploring Stockbridge and it was a nice 10 minute walk to the Old Town. Breakfast was fine, tradional food.

Only 3 blocks from the heart of Edinburgh!

Posted Apr 8, 2016
Pros: The location was perfect, only 3 blocks from the heart of the city. Loved the thoughtful and kind staff.
Cons: Include umbrellas in the rooms :-)
Location: A wonderful walking location. Taxi's are plentiful, but if you like to walk this is the city and hotel for you!
The hotel is situated in an upscale neighborhood, only a quick walk to George Street and the bustling shopping and dining area. On Sunday's there is a lovely Market only steps away that features locally made food and crafts. The staff is wonderful and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is delicious and certainly more than any other included breakfast I have ever experienced. I do recommend choosing a suite, as is common in the UK and other European countries, the rooms are a bit smaller than most Americans are used to. I wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it to friends and family.
