Guest safetyPosted Sep 14, 2015
Pros: Convenient for Waverley Street Station
Cons: More supervision of kitchen service as I had to send my breakfast back due to over cooked and burnt bacon, no croissants that day due to non delivery
Location: On Princes Street so very convenient for tours etc
Major safety hazards relating to access to my first room, no bannister on stone staircase, serious trip hazard in bathroom where floor laminate in bedroom created a gap to bathroom. A tatty bath mat which had been cut to fit was placed at end of the shower covering a carpet but it did get wet! Paper notices indicating room numbers and direction were on display which looked very amateur and I felt the whole refurbishment was being badly organised. I was transferred to another room after discussions with the duty manager.

Middle of Edinburgh, opposite station.Posted Sep 11, 2015
Pros: Staff great, polite and helpful. Nice views from bar.
Location: Central. Castle, galleries, pubs, cafés, tour buses all close by.
Some minor glitches which did not spoil my short break.

Prima maar een beetje verouderd hotel.Posted Sep 8, 2015
Slechte WiFi verbinding.

Great situationPosted Sep 5, 2015
The price was very good...and obviously for that price you aren't going to get an upgraded room. So the room and bathroom were small and old fashioned but had every thing necessary. Bed was fine. There was no mattress cover between the mattress and the sheet...when I pointed this out at reception next morning they said there should have been and they'd fix it...that night it hadn't been fixed. Also the shower-head was hanging off the wall which made showering difficult...small things that would make a cheap stay in old fashioned little room perfectly fine if they were put right. Management????

Good option for the Fringe Festival!Posted Aug 22, 2015
Pros: Good location, polite staff
Cons: Check in times were a bit late, rooms need modernising, better signage within the hotel; I initially thought the reception was for the bar.
Location: Based on Prince's Street, excellent location all the sights are in walking distance. Really easy to get to and from the airport.
Stayed here for the Fringe Festival and overall a good option. - Needs better signage inside. Initially the foyer looks quite pleasant but as soon as you get to the second floor it starts to look very dated and, unfortunately, the rooms aren't much better. Lino in the bathroom (that appears to be coming up), dodgy handrails, broken chairs, super narrow beds, no fridge and an unspoilt view of a brick wall and some steel walkways. + The staff polite and very helpful the location is as good as it gets; barely a 5 minute walk away from the airport shuttle bus or trams. The general touristy bits are within walking distance too which also meant that most of the venues for the Fringe Festival were reasonably close by. Overall I've stayed in better for cheaper but as a base for exploring Edinburgh the location would be hard to beat.

Location good but room horrendousPosted Aug 3, 2015
Pros: Location and helpful staff
Cons: Complete refurbishment of rooms and hallways
Location: Close to everthing
I stayed in this hotel for one night, and being right on Princes Street the location was perfect. When I arrived I noticed that the entrance area wasn't well finished and the lift to reception on the first floor also doubled as a service lift . The reception staff very very friendly and helpful, it was only when I went reached the accommodation area that I Was absolutely shocked. I would rename this as a hostel, not a hotel! And certainly not 3 star. The doors and door frames were all damaged and scruffy and a cheap nylon carpet on the floor. The room and en suite were very dated by I must say it was very clean. Perhaps worst of all was that only one of three bulbs in the ceiling light worked, the mirror strip light didn't work and there was no bulb at all in the reading light above the single bed.

Very DisappointingPosted Jul 28, 2015
Pros: Nothing, oh wait the kettle was good!
Cons: Maintenance is very poor!
Location: Location was good and I am sure that is why they get booked. As people have left decent or better reviews. Not sure why they have though.
I booked here due to the reviews, therefore I am leaving one now. This was a birthday present for my son and daughter in law (who is in hotel management) Imagine my disappointment when we arrived the bar music was so loud we could barely hear the front desk person for check in. The stairs were threadbare and in some areas even frayed badly. The door to our room and the ones near us was so badly maintained that whole pieces of the door facing were missing giving a shabby appearance to the hallway before we even entered the room. The outlet to the TV did not work and we had to plug into another one. Some of the bulbs in the light over the bed were burned out and the whole room had a faint smell of urine that got stronger in the bathroom. The bathroom was so grimy around the floor and corners that I didn't even want to take a shower in it. There was at least an electric kettle and they do supply tea and instant coffee and chocolate and some biscuits, nice touch but the tray they presented on had a big chip out of the corner. It was just a cheap plastic tray so it couldn't cost that much to replace it with an unbroken one. Overall impression, they make their money on the bar and don't really care about the rooms even though we paid $170 per night per room. Most of the issues are cosmetic, some are just simple maintenance therefore giving the impression of a lack of interest in customer experience. Don't book here go to Motel 1 much nicer! Wish I had known before i booked here
