Beautiful hotel beside the castle

Posted Apr 24, 2017
Staff and service were too notch, from the minute we arrived until our departure. The view from our gorgeous room was outstanding and breakfast was fabulous. We loved our stay and would gladly return when in Edinburgh again!

Lovely hotel

Posted Apr 23, 2017
The hotel itself is a beautiful building, the pool and spa pool were lovely. The breakfast was ok not amazing, although the coffees and staff were decent. The bed was lovely, we had a kingsize premium room and it was very comfortable and spacious. The hotel was gold friendly, I brought my 5 year old son with us and the staff were lovely and chatty. Had one rude woman saying the main pool was off limits to children (it's not) but she was a guest not a staff member and politely told her that she was greatly misinformed.

Don't eat at the hotel restaurant the Brasserie

Posted Apr 21, 2017
The hotel is an older property that has been modernized. It is stately and elegant both on the interior and the exterior. The spair with pool is excellent as are the hotel staff. It is located next to a bar that closes at 3am and there is usually 1 or more of the patrons that like to sing at the top of their lungs. Upon check in I was given a voucher for 25% off food at the Brasserie restaurant in the hotel. When we went to the restaurant the food was poor to mediocre and then when I presented my voucher they failed to honor it. Luckily the hotel has a very pro active customer service system. I was contacted several times during my stay via text on my satisfaction with the hotel. I expressed my dissatisfaction with my experience at the Brasserie and David the night manager immediately contacted me and refunded my 25%.

Great hotel in middle of Edinburgh

Posted Apr 13, 2017
My girlfriend and I came here as part of her birthday surprise and were very pleased with what we got. Previously I didn't believe expensive hotels like this one were worth the price, but having stayed at the Caledonian I now believe differently, will definitely be going back.

Luxury Hotel overlooking the Castle

Posted Apr 12, 2017
Pros: Spaciousness of the room and view overlooking the castle.
Cons: Morning scramble for breakfast would be improved if they put the buffet on more tables.
Wonderful time at the Caledonian/Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh. Really friendly staff, nice room overlooking the castle, wonderful bar that can make any cocktail you can imagine. Hotel used to be part of the former Princes Street railway station and the end 19th early 20th century opulence shines through. Close to the Royal Mile and all the places you'll want to go to in the City.

Cons: Unfortunately we were given a disabled bathroom for some unknown reason.Consequently the hand basin was back breakingly low and the floor very slippy
Very comfortable and central and an excellent dinner in the brasserie

City Centre Hotel

Posted Mar 29, 2017
Pros: It had very good facilities and the room was very spacious and the staff were both helpful and friendly.
Cons: Although the breakfast was very comprehensive the cooked breakfast was generally not hot and the coffee was not good and a bit weak.
Location: It is ideally located near to the old town and near to plenty of restaurants, galleries and museums etc. Buses were frequent for excursions e.g. Leith
The hotel room was spacious and comfortable. The facilities including pool and spa added to the enjoyable experience. The location of the hotel was ideal for exploring the old town area. In all a vey enjoyable experience. On the down side on our arrival at the hotel I did not enjoy the hard sell to try to persuade us to pay £40 per night for a room upgrade. The room upgrade was no better than the one originally arranged and the pressure placed on us as soon as we arrived detracted from our relaxing break which had been considered carefully when originally booked.

good location - disappointing for the cost

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Pros: Main lounge and location.
Cons: More honest images of the rooms.
Location: Great central Edinburgh location with views of the castle.
At almost £800 for 2 nights the room was very disappointing. Room was small with view (and smell) of the kitchen with small bathroom (no bath) sliding door as so small. Furnishings were nice quality. Room was very clean. Main lounge was great - lovely surroundings and attentive staff. Caley bar and restaurant for breakfast not so good. Staff reluctant to take an A la carte order for breakfast (4 errors in a 3 person order) no table service in the bar as "too busy". Concierge and valet service was great. Probably wouldn't go back as so many great hotels in Edinburgh try G&V stayed there last year and was really impressed.
