Great spot!
Love this place, will definitely be back. For the two of us it was perfect. Love being on the lake/beach and being able to use the canoe. It’s a great cozy home. Only contacted them regarding a few things but always quick response!

Serenity
This family vacation was great and much needed. Our stay was great! Our 12 year old and Labrador enjoyed swimming in the lake every day. The beach was lovely to walk on anytime of day. We enjoyed watching the storms roll in while sitting in front of the picture window. We are looking forward to returning! Yes, you do need to be mindful when using the water, but that was minor due to all the amenities this place has to offer.

A week away
We stayed at Stonington Clearview cottage for a week enjoyed our time there immensely. Once you dial in the water conservation. You can just soak up the views and enjoy the beach and quiet setting. This was are second year and we intend to make it annually. 👍👍👍

It was beautiful. As soon as I walked in I was completely blown away. The pictures of the property don't do it justice. The beach is wonderful, but water shoes are a necessity. Their outside areas are beautiful and they look well maintained

Wrong time of year
The property itself was beautiful and it was very clean. The issue was the mosquitos made the weekend unbearable. We chose to leave due to the inability to be outside as a result of mosquito swarms. We advised VRBO right away and they were very responsive and understanding and worked with us to get a partial refund. We'd certainly try this place again but later in the summer when mosquitoes aren't hatching. We've had none in the lower peninsula where we live so we're unaware how bad they would be up there.

Weekend Getaway
Was nice and quiet visit, loved being on the beachfront. If it was cold enough the fireplace would've been used, instead we made use of the firepit outside. Definitely would visit again, only a 40 minute drive away from Escanaba and a nice county drive into the peninsula.

Clearview cottage
Very beautiful place it's private and relaxing. It was good being cut off from Internet. We didn't have any issues with the water conservation but it did take some getting used to for other tasks when you are from the city lol. We highly recommend staying here despite that. Owners had a number to text and get back really quickly. Perfect place to unwind and unlug.

Week at the Lake
My husband, 2 dogs and I spent a week here the first of August 2022. We loved the location, we had our own private beach, the water was very shallow for a long way out so the water was not near as cold as I thought it would be. The only downside to the property was the size of the shower. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and exploring the UP during the day. This was our first time to Michigan. Very enjoyable.

Secluded beach getaway
Cottage was super cute! Had everything we could possibly need there including some toiletries and paper products. Water wasn’t a huge issue, my only complaint is the well water smell ( I’m a city girl)😂the only thing I would warn future travelers is bring your chairs in at night, spiders liked to hang out if they were left out. I personally hate spiders but they really weren’t an issue and never saw them inside. Overall we had a lovely trip and would definitely recommend .

Unplug and relax in a beautiful setting
Beautiful little cabin with quaint decorating and amenities. Great location on Lake Michigan, private and canoe available. Limited wifi and data use provided. No cable TV, but plenty of games, DVD's and activities to do. Great spot!

Beyond Beautiful!
From the moment we drove up, and stepped into Clearview Cottage, we were enchanted! The setting, the cottage, the view…we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect getaway spot! Our hosts had thought of everything and anything we might have needed to enjoy our stay. They left more than just “essentials” to use - pet bowls, charcoal & lighter, campfire pie makers - there’s really nothing more you need to pack other than your clothing, personal care, and food! House water situation was not at all an issue for us. We’re already looking forward to visiting again next year!

I love this place!
Clearview is the perfect name for the property as you can sit at the big picture window and watch the waves roll in from Lake Michigan. On a clear day, you can just make out the Minneapolis Shoal Light way out in the lake. The little beach access is wonderful and sandy (if a bit cold this time of year), with a nice fire pit nearby, a small patio area with a charcoal grill, and a bench situated beneath a glorious spruce tree just alongside the beach. The cabin is perfect for up north, tucked in a gorgeous white cedar grove that gives the cabin a bit of privacy. It has a stunning stone fireplace, a small but complete kitchen and dining room and a spacious (and comfy) master bedroom. There's a loft for the kids, though we didn't use it at all. If you are accustomed to water conservation, the water supply issues are no big deal. You just have to be mindful of water usage there. The cabin is very accessible if you can manage a few stairs. I only mention that because my 1st trip there was with a very old german shepherd with bone cancer - a bucket list trip for the old boy, as he loved the beach but couldn't manage stairs any longer. And I couldn't carry him. So this place was perfect for us back then, as well as now to introduce his successor to the joys of the great lakes. It made for a few memorable trips and I can't wait to return! My only very minor criticism is that the neighbors scared me half to death a few times while cutting thru the property to reach the beach. My husband had the car out fishing and they didn't realize I was there. That said, they seemed like really lovely people, just gave me a bit of a jump scare. Speaking of neighbors, if you do bring your dog here, be aware that there are porcupines just ambling around, but the property managers have left some nice cable tie-outs that are super convenient to help keep everyone safe. Thanks for another wonderful and memorable stay. I can't wait to return!

Relaxing place to unplug
The cabin and surrounding property was beautiful and very clean. The wifi was down when we first arrived, but the property manager was very quick to respond and get everything back up and running in a couple of days. Water conservation was not an issue during our stay, however, I will note that if you need to shower, it does take a few minutes for the water to warm up enough to jump in without getting "shocked". I was overall very pleased with the cabin, its location, the cleanliness, and the comfortable beds. I wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely come back.

Lakeside cabin with authentic "Up North" character
This cabin was perfect for our needs. Very comfortable and spacious. A view of the lake from every room, plenty of yard for our puppy to play (even a few dog toys scattered about which she promptly found). We were able to walk the beach after the winds died down. Only downside was the quality of the water from the tap, but drinking water was provided with a cooler/dispenser so even that wasn't really a problem. The area is lovely and private and not far from amenities. A short drive brings you to a lighthouse at the end of the peninsula which is surrounded by picnic areas. You can climb to the top (about three stories) for a beautiful view. There were books to read and some DVDs for when the weather is bad (as it was for us one morning; but watching the storm roll in was maybe even better than having perfect weather). All in all, we'd definitely recommend a stay at Clearview Cottage.

Unforgettable Experience
The location of the property is unbeatable, with private access to the Michigan lake. The scenery is fantastic. The property is huge and very private, with a lot of beautiful trees. The beach is nice, and we also enjoyed the fire pit area in the evening. The cabin is great overall but may benefit from a little maintenance and cleaning. Particularly, a few of the window screens had substantial holes and need replacement. The amount of small flies that got into the house through the holes in window screens during our first night there was overwhelming, and it was too hot to close the windows. It was not a problem for other nights since it was cooler and we kept the windows shut. I would also replace at least some of the two-prong outlets with grounded outlets or provide more adapters, or even make a note in instructions so that renters can be prepared. I could only find one outlet where I could plug a laptop, electric kettle and coffeemaker though there are plenty of conveniently located non-grounded outlets around the cabin. The cabin was clean in common-use areas but some windows, screens and ceiling lines were dusty. We knew about the water conservation and tap water quality and color when we booked the property but it still was a bit of getting used to. The drinking water was provided but I would also use clean water to rinse dishes, fruit and veggies after washing. If we just brought a few gallons of tap water from home for rinsing, it would not be an issue, so maybe a suggestion about it could be helpful for some. I appreciate the owner and management being upfront about the water consideration. The property management is very efficient. I received detailed and thorough directions and instructions way before I could start expecting them and I was impressed by their comprehensiveness. Checking-in went seamlessly. In summary, we enjoyed our stay at the property and would recommend it to others. The small inconveniences that we experienced can be easily fixed. Overall, it is a wonderful cabin located on a huge, uniquely positioned and very green land that has a private beach on the Michigan lake, and all that creates an unforgettable experience.

Honeymoon Getaway
We had an amazing time in this cute cabin on the lake. Very remote and quiet and away from the world. Saw lots of deer and turkeys. Only problem we had was with ticks. Was a warmer than normal fall so that was probably tp blame. Overall a great time and perfect place to relax and explore with little to no human contact. We will be back again for sure!

Lovely home, very secluded. We did have problems with the toilet even though we flushed the filter twice a day and did not use any two water functions at the same time per management. There were also a lot of ants in the kitchen and some found their way into our suitcases. The property was gorgeous and other than the water and ant issue the home was clean and nice. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Renters beware......
When my wife and I reserved this cottage we were made aware that you needed to conserve water. But when you are gone all day and wish to take a shower when you get back and all you get is a trickle and I mean a trickle this is not conservation,this is lack of water. We followed the owners instructions to the letter concerning the well. We have lived on a well for the past 35 years and in that time we've had a well go bad so I know what I'm talking about when I say that this well is played out. What water is available is brown and the toilet bowl is disgusting. The wood stove has a note on it saying and I quote "DANGER!! DO NOT USE, OUT OF ORDER, WOULD CAUSE HOUSE FIRE" end quote. I spoke to Cara and Mark on the phone and they said to disregard the note, but a note that strong from the homeowner made us feel very uneasy, so the note stayed in place and we did not use it. In the binder at the home under the header "furnace", it stated DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACTIVATE THE FURNACE BECAUSE FUEL OIL IS NOT AVAILABLE. Also on the sheet next to the breaker box it says to leave the furnace breaker off. Mark said to go ahead and use the furnace and we did, it was getting cold at night. The furnace did light but you could smell fuel oil throughout the house, not to mention that it was VERY loud. We shut the furnace off when we left for the day and we shut it off when we went to bed. You couldn't sleep with the noise it makes. When it comes to the hot water it takes forever to reach the tap and when it does you have very little pressure left. To sum this review up, in my opinion all of the mechanicals are shot. We would not return to this home if the rent was free. We feel that we wasted a good deal of hard earned money renting this place. So potential renters be advised and beware. I wish we would have known the state of disrepair that this home is in when we reserved it.

No excuses. I'm so sorry your experience is not what it should have been. We spoke with you during your stay regularly. Since we had to send the handyman out twice, we found there was something stuck in the well which blocked the flow of water as it should have been. I'm grateful the intermittent well issue has been resolved. Each time Roy came out, unplugged the well and changed the filter, the water started flowing again. I wish there was something more we could have done at the time to accommodate you. Roy came to the cabin within a short time each time you call. You are correct. There is no reason the well should have been working poorly. You are again correct. I'm disappointed in the tone of the notes the owner's family member left regarding the heat. It was an effort to assist his family member which fell short. After I spoke with the property owner, Mark and I did advise you to use the oil furnace and disregard the note. In retrospect, we should have encouraged you to move to another one of our cottages. The water is now back to the conservative normal and the wood burning stove has been inspected, plus cleaned/swept. The owners were being very cautious in their concern of potential creosote build-up. It is up to code and has been used by the rest of the guests this fall. Again, as I expressed when we spoke, I sincerely apologize for your experience with Stonington. I've passed along your feedback to the owners regarding your personal well experience and that of the fuel oil. Your feedback is truly appreciated. Sincerely, Cara

Management great...cottage not so much!
First, the Pros: 1) When we began having trouble at the Stonington Clearview Cottage, the people at Freshwater Vacation Rentals (we worked with Mark) were wonderful. Our phone calls were answered promptly and we were kept updated on the progress of the repairs to the toilet. We will definitely rent another of their properties in the future. 2) The location is amazing...so beautiful and private. The drive out to the tip of the peninsula to visit the lighthouse is magical, and well worth the drive. And it's so quiet...we only heard two or three cars during our time there. However, the Cons: 1) The toilet was "slow" when we first arrived, and quit flushing on the first morning we were there. Mark, at Freshwater Vacation Rentals, sent out a plumber within an hour, and the problem was corrected. Until the next morning, when it happened all over again. Our guess is the septic system is overwhelmed by more than one toilet flush per hour. We chose to leave the cottage and rent a room at a hotel, thereby paying double, rather than having to go for a drive to the nearest gas station or rest area when we needed to use the bathroom. 2) Well water is one thing, but water that looks like watery chocolate milk and smells like rotting eggs? Even after priming the filter each morning, as directed. A drinking water dispenser is provided, but we found ourselves using that water to wash up, to rinse dishes, etc., rather then using the tap water. It appears the water quality declines during the year, as the season progresses. We have family nearby who have a point-well, and their water is sparkling clear and tastes fine. We're guessing the well needs repair or replacement. 3) The odor of mildew/mold was overpowering in the main bedroom, the closet and the bathroom. The only way we could sleep in the bedroom was to have the windows open, and run a fan constantly to draw clean air into the room, but even then the smell was really pronounced. This could be a real problem for anyone with allergies or asthma. Overall: Great management team and beautiful location, but the place needs work! Final Note: Freshwater Vacation Rentals refunded two of our three nights, and as already noted, were really professional and pleasant to deal with.

You are right on point with the location and surrounding sites. They are both tranquil and beautiful! I believe we can only improve the cottages we manage with constructive feedback. I appreciate how detailed you were able to be. I love that you were able to see the positive, on top of bringing maintenance issues to our attention. We had a rough time with this well at Stonington for a couple weeks in September 2018. The water challenges, smell and look of the water kept being resolved and then recurring again. I'm relieved this seems to be past us. The last guest of the season just departed (October 2018) and described her stay as "lovely." I'm glad we were able to make it right for you. I'm sorry you didn't stay for your whole planned trip. Beautiful view, quiet location
This was the perfect getaway for our family. It was peaceful, with a beautiful view and quiet location. It felt very private. The cottage was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. We enjoyed the beach and sunsets. One day we drove to Munising for Pictured Rocks and the glass bottom boat shipwreck tour.

Amazing
I stayed here for about a week with my husband, 11 year old son, and dog. The property is amazing, the inside of the cabin is charming and clean. My only complaint is that the electricity was not working upstairs, and the drinking water only provided 5 gallons. Which is not enough for three people and a dog. So bring flashlights and extra water..

Stonington Clearview Cottage is a great place to go to get away, and the ability to bring your four-legged family members makes it even more special. The U.P. is always fabulous because of its beauty.

Birthday weekend!
I surprised my wife with a get-away to our favorite summer location- the UP- this time we ventured to the south (we have historically gone to the Superior side) and found a fantastic location in the Stongington Cabin. It felt like we had the whole bay to ourselves- perfect little beach area, great views, and perfectly cozy. The location is just far enough away from the "big city" of Escanaba to feel like you're really getting away, but close enough it's not a complete haul to head in for a little sightseeing or to grab a bite to eat. Our only issue was...we needed more time! We will definitely be back!
