Very comfortable and quaint.

Pros: The warm ambiance of the room and the wonderful bar and service.
Cons: They need to spray the rooms to prevent an infestation of the inn!!!!
Location: We visited my great nephew at UVM and enjoyed a great dinner at the Waterworks restaurant situated at the edge of the Oyster River. It was Great!
We only stayed overnight, but the room was beautiful and the bar and restaurant were great. Out only problem was finding roaches crawling across my nightstand as well as several in the shower! Apart from that, and I don't expect that's a regular occurrence, the room was cozy and comfortable and otherwise quite charming!

Hotel was ok just to isolated

This was not my cup of tea. Had a huge storm and apparently there were no back up generators.

Super comfy, great vegetarian options

My daughter and I stayed here together for a special splurge. The little culinary-themed decorative touches were cute, even the downright silly ones (eggs on the wall? butcher block headboard?)...but it honestly was perfect for a mother/daughter foodie-fest. Grounds are lovely, and the view out of the front of the high-situated inn looks straight out toward the gorgeous Lake Champlain sunset. We especially enjoyed dinner at the Junction restaurant, as it is rare for us to find inventive, hearty, original and delicious vegetarian entrees as we did there. We also adored the dessert case that was built-in to the reception desk. The room was quiet, and cozy and the beds were a complete dream -- like sleeping on a cloud. No time to take in the spa, but we had a great time.

Nice Resort but Housekeeping forgot us

Essex Resort has great amenities. We used the hot tub and indoor pool, ate at The Tavern which was very good. As we travelled to Stowe and Burlington, we found the Resort well placed. The 2 issues were housekeeping forgot to clean the room one of the three nights of our stay -the second issue was the grounds keeper decided to use his leaf blower at 8:00am close to our window. All things considered, I would return to Essex Resort.

The location of the resort is perfect. Close to all that Vermont offers. The resort is very picturesque but a bit old and in need of some upgrading. The food was phenomenal and plenty. We unfortunatley didn't take advantage of the cooking school or the spa but will the next time as it looked fun and relaxing.

Pros: The restful atmosphere of the Inn.
Ours was an overnight stay only, so we did not have time to enjoy or use the "resort" facilities for which we had to pay extra. It would be nice if an exception could be made for those not able to use the resort facilities. Our room was very nice and staff were pleasant. The surroundings are very relaxing. Very nice.

Disappointed overall. Photos presented a product that felt much different then the actual hotel. The hotel common areas and my room in need of maintenance. Staff was neither helpful nor friendly. Room wasn't ready for occupancy until almost 4pm. Rate did not include a "resort" fee of $20 but there was little about the Essex that felt like a resort, and no explanation of amaneities at check in.

The room was beautiful but the building,The Mansion wa very worn and needs some painting and new furniture in the entrance room.
