"The Buccaneer was fine. Not great, but fine. We reserved a "Family Cottage" - good layout - king bed for parents, and a second bedroom with two singles for the kids. Unfortunately we were put in room 164, which had not been renovated and was in very, very shabby condition - ripped hook holes in doors, chipped furniture, wires hanging everywhere - just really bad value for what we were paying. We asked to be moved and were told that a different family cottage would be available after our first two nights. We eventually moved to Family cottage 170, which had been renovated and was beautiful. Basically if you are renting one of these, call the property and ask to be a in a renovated version. On the plus side - the beach was great - clean, well-staffed, easy use of kayaks and paddleboards - just great, and this is where we spent all our time. Similar to other reviews, the food is both overpriced and frankly not very good (which is a tough combination....). After a bad first dinner on property, we went off-property for most meals except for the breakfast (which again, was fine - not excellent but cetainly not bad). We rented a car, which seems very necessary if you want to explore and eat off proporty. There were some great places to eat as a family - GOAT Soup and Whiskey was amazing and great value, Ziggy's (which is a gas station with a kitchen and a bar) had great lunches, Run Runners in Christiansted was great for dinner. Buck Island tour was a big highlight"

"My fiancé and I stayed 3 nights here in March and while I wouldn't call it a 5-star hotel, we had an excellent experience. Something to consider when staying here is that it is located about 40 minutes away from the main city area (Christiansted) and the roads leading up the hotel get narrow and the cell service gets shotty. The drive is so far out that some Uber drivers decline your ride because they do not want to drive out that far. I would def let them drive instead of renting if you are from the US. -- but with that distance comes privacy and very nice mountain/beach views! So just know what you are getting! Also, the beach access at the resort is pretty much non-existent. The waves are there, but the beach is not -- it is a shore of mostly rocks. But the food at the restaurants was really good!! And they had someone playing live music during dinner every night. The staff (Muffs, Malcom and Luis) were great. We enjoyed meeting and conversing with them at various points during the day and at the bar. I enjoyed looking off into the beach and sunset, and the privacy of this resort compared to others on the island is noteworthy. If you want to be out of the hussle and bussle and just enjoy some quiet island time -- I would recommend Grapetree. "
