History and Character

Posted Apr 25, 2017
This hotel has very friendly staff. The decor is more traditional but adds character and aligns to the aesthetics of the structure. Negatives: There are areas of the hotel that have an odor like carpets need to be replaced. Additionally I must add that our bed was uncomfortable as I believe it was some kind of memory foam. Positives: The Spa area is nicely put together and offers a variety of services and amenities. There are also indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs and an indoor cooling tub that are available to guests not purchasing spa services. Local wineries make this a great place to relax and revive.

Nice hotel for a getaway/retreat

Posted Apr 24, 2017
I've been to the Elms hotel several times, and will definitely be going back. I have always enjoyed my experience here, and the staff is very nice and accommodating. The second time going, the outdoor hot tub was not in use which was too bad, but the lap pool in the basement is quite incredible and makes up for it. The spa has some amazing services, and the grotto is a MUST. The food at the restaurants and bar in the Elms is superb and the cocktails are all to-die for. If you stay on the fourth floor they have a free happy hour only for those on that floor, I believe on Fridays and Saturdays....something to note for the next stay!

Beautiful hotel

Posted Apr 22, 2017
Pros: The room was beautiful as were the grounds of the hotel.
Location: It's a bit off the i40, but a short drive to get back on. Worth the drive.
It is located a bit off the i40 but well worth the drive. It's a beautiful building and the interior is as nice as the exterior. We were upgraded to a suite and it was beautiful. Beds are very comfortable. Bathroom spacious. Two large tv's. We had dinner in the dining room and again both the service and food were great. The grounds are very nice too, they even grow their own herbs! The pool was closed, but looked very inviting, I would have loved to have used it. There is another room downstairs, in the spa area I think, but we didn't go into the spa or the pool area inside. Overall I would have loved to have spent a few days here. If we travel this way again we will stay here!

Very Disappointed

Posted Apr 14, 2017
Pros: The indoor pool was nice and so was the restaurant at the hotel. Staff was nice.
Location: Absolutely nothing to do.
The way this hotel is portrayed online is pretty misleading. The hotel looks gorgeous, secluded, and high-end. This is not the case. The hotel is in the middle of a pretty lacking 'town' with no restaurants or things to do. The hotel itself is WAY less glamourous than the photos portray. It is surrounded by family homes that are not the nicest either. The pool was dirty and landscape looks nothing like the photos. The room smells old and there was a constant leaking in our room. Not to mention I unfortunately did not realize this was 45 minutes outside of KC. This hotel popped up for Kansas City...so if you are looking for something convenient - do not stay here.

I do apologize that you did not find great activities/shopping in the area. We do offer brochures at the Front Desk complimentary to our guests. These brochures do highlight the downtown shopping district as well as showcase our local wineries. If you decide to give us a chance again just ask at the Front desk for advice on recommended areas of interest. I do also apologize for the issues with the quality of the room. I would love to address these concerns with you if you would like to get in touch with us!

Timeless Elegance

Posted Apr 11, 2017
Pros: Spacious room, great experience
Cons: elevator should be updated. Breakfast buffet was average at best.
The hotel is a trip back into time. It has been restored nicely and has great amenities. Our room was excellent with the exception of the bed itself. The foam mattress suffered from extreme compaction and needed to be replaced. It was still comfortable but had (pre-formed) positions on the bed.

Great spa getaway

Posted Apr 7, 2017
Pros: Historic, fabulous staff, comfortable room, great breakfast in the on-site restaurant.
Location: Didn't leave the hotel except for some meals. Had several choices that were all close by and served good food. Wabash BBQ was great.
Staff in all areas went out of their way to make our stay excellent. Historic hotel is beautiful. Restaurants close by. Spa services and staff were very good. We were glad to stay mid-week (spa staff shared that the spa is extremely busy on weekends) and had the use of all facilities with no waiting. Ghost tour was fun.

Excelsior springs hotel

Posted Apr 7, 2017
I was VERY surprised that the bathrooms in the lobby have no toilet seat covers available- not out of covers, no covers available. The hook in the bathroom didn't hold a towel or anything else-everything slipped to the floor because hook was cheap and poorly designed. The round magnification mirror looked and performed like it came from a dime store. The cover on the bed was visibly filthy. I expected more from a resort hotel room than this. I have stayed all over the world in hotels less than and better than this so I have a broad experience from which to draw. Staff was quick to help with the dirty linens and additional towels we needed. The hotel was lovely and updated from my last stay many years ago. Skimping on bathroom hardware is not in step with the rest of the features of the hotel, and not providing toilet seat covers is extremely unsanitary. So mixed reviews.
