Pros: 1) The public areas of the hotel are quite impressive. 2) The memory foam king size bed was very comfortable, the best we've seen in any hotel. 3) The housekeeping staff was attentive, knocking on our door to see if we needed anything. 4) The history of the hotel is unmatched, and the grounds are beautiful and very walkable 5) The on-site restaurant does a great job both with the food and with making guests feel at home.
Cons: 1) There appeared to be minimal staff devoted to checking in guests. For example, as a historic hotel it lacks the automatic doors at the front, making the process of getting a rolling luggage rack out of the building and back in again a bit cumbersome. When we arrived, no one on staff was watching the entrance to assist guests with this task. 2) Rooms were rather spartan, lacking normal features such as a mini-fridge and microwave, and -despite plenty of empty floor space - any chairs beyond the simple desk chair. 3) The basement level indoor pool deparately needs more railings to ensure that guests can get in and out of the hot and cold tubs safely.
