Without a doubt, this is the best riad in Fes. During my recent stay, I had the opportunity to visit several other riads, as they were stops on a guided tour as well as a the site of a cooking class. Not only has the owner, Reibal Idrissi Qaitouni, done a spectacular job (6 years of work, actually) of renovating his family's former home, but also created a haven of tranquility in an otherwise bustling area.
As a female traveller, I can say that this was easily the best and safest hotel I've stayed at in years. I truly felt cocooned and cherished--from the moment Hassan, the doorman took my bags, to dinner in the courtyard, to sleeping in my room. This riad is so safe, in fact, that I often left the door to my room unlocked. My room, by the way, was about 800 square feet. It included a bathroom with both a soaking tub as well as a stand-up shower. It was "Noor", for purposes of looking at photos. The food is also excellent. Reibal has a cook who's been with him for years so the quality of the food and cleanliness of the kitchen are surely the best in Fes. I was perfectly content to drink the fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning. Reibal himself--what a host! Charming, attentive, and most importantly, "branche" as the French say. Plugged-in. If he doesn't know the person you need; or the place you want to see; or the food you want to eat--forget it. It's not worth knowing/having/eating.
Bravo, Reibal! A job well done!
Hugs,
Stacie
