Nice hotel - except it's on top of a bar

Posted Nov 17, 2017
Nice funky hotel in an older buildiny and in a great area. Be warned - Bar Fluxus is right next door (accessible through the lobbey), and they're open to 2am most nights. The bass permeates everything, and the volume goes up the later it gets. If that's your thing, great - but if I had known, I wouldn't have stayed here. Also supposed to be nonsmoking, but I can totally smell cigarette smoke.

Disappointed

Posted Oct 30, 2017 on Hotels
I have stayed at this property a few times over the years and I just had a bad experience that will keep me from returning. First, they could not find our reservations and we waited for about 45 minutes until we were set up. Then, the room was semi-clean and it smelled weird... like urine and feet. I also saw roaches in the bathroom. The breakfast was minimal..... and by the time I went downstairs it was being taken up - along with a snappy rude hostess questioning "what do you want...". I called down and asked for a manager and haven't heard a PEEP yet. Poor customer service and deterioration of property standards.

Cool art and a comfortable bed

Posted Sep 30, 2017
I really liked this place. Neat elevator and cozy room. Quiet at night, comfortable bed. The breakfast in the morning was a nice treat. We purchased a parking pass from the front desk and parked at a very near by garage.

It really is Arty

Posted Sep 21, 2017 on Hotels
The name of the hotel say it all. This is an ART hotel the walls are all painted with designs. There is original art on the walls, there are murals everywhere. The hallways are extremely narrow and the elevator has both a gate and a door which don’t stay open when you are bringing bib bag in or out. The rooms are very small. Breakfast is basic continental. Their desk staff is pleasant. The neighborhood is close to union square, china town and the financial district.

Even better than expected

Posted Aug 26, 2017 on Hotels
My wife and I were very impressed; though we only stayed for one night during a quick layover, the room was very comfortable, the location is second to none (about 1,000 amazing things in walking distance), the staff was friendly and super helpful, and despite what we had been lead to believe based on some information we'd gotten we had our own private bathroom! Would 1000% stay here again and DEFINITELY recommend to others

Location Location Location

Posted Aug 26, 2017
We've been going to Hotel des Arts for about 10 years now. It's not about the comfort or ease of the hotel...it's all about the location. Anything worth going to in San Francisco is within walking distance. Spec's, Vesuvio, Tonga Room...

Good atmosphere, our kind of hotel

Posted Aug 14, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: See above
Cons: The lift could be replaced with a modern one that doesn't need muscle to open. A room fan may be needed if the SF weather actually ever gets hot!
Location: See above.
From the moment I walked in the door I was pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Des Arts in San Fransisco's central business district. A friendly, low-key altmosphere in the reception area was a good start. Up in the historic lift to our room and again, a good fit with our needs - double bed, a window that opened to the outside letting in the cool SF air! En suite bathroom, storage cupboard, small table and even a small bar fridge (noisy, but arn't they all!) The great location is directly opposite the entrance to Chinatown and only a couple of blocks from Union Square. Breakfast is included (very basic, suggest supplement with BYO cereals, fruit, etc) It's possible to store bags if your flight is later in the day, and access to restrooms on the reception level is also possible to get ready for the trip. I/we will probably stay there again if we return to SF.

Funky rooms. Staff needs some training

Posted Aug 14, 2017 on Hotels
Funky room! Loved it. The local acadamy of art has probably something to do with it. The first desk clerk wasn't too helpful. Asked for an additional bed and it took a pleading with the next guy at the front desk to get it done.
