PROS: In terms of affordability, access to the major sights (galleries, museums, Duomo, etc.) and mobility around the region, you can’t do much better than this. Tram from the airport is a 5-minute easy walk; all of the group tours to Siena and Chianti are stationed 9 minutes away; the major train station SMN is 5 minutes. The staff is polite and helpful if you need things.
CONS:
The hardest bed I’ve ever slept in. If you’re a back sleeper, you’ll probably be fine. I am not and woke up with red marks on my body that turns to bruises from the bed.
SECURITY: This is a very old property converted to a hotel and people fight with the doors constantly. My door lock didn’t even function and was bowed in like < as if broken in. I’m 5’10” and slim; the shower is very small, probably 3x3, so I was banging my elbows constantly. Only mentioning it for the sake of other tall travelers
BREAKFAST: I wouldn’t recommend it. This hotel is 5 minutes from the Mercato Centrale; it would’ve been nice to have had a selection of fresh fruit rather than the canned pineapple/canned fruit cocktail on offer. You’re better off going across the street to the pasticceria instead. One of the breakfast room waiters asked for my number very unexpectedly, which made me uncomfortable.
NOISE: On one night, the local youth were scream-singing outside my window from midnight to 2am. I admire their fortitude. Not the best for weary travelers, but again to be expected given the location. Thin walls
