Great staff, hotel could be much better

Posted Jun 17, 2016 on Hotels
The hotel staff are great. Always with a smile, accommodating, good english language skills and also very helpful. However, the hotel needs some work. I get that it's an old building, but the furniture and floor needs an update, especially the beds. The bathroom, however was good and everything was clean. The problem is that it's located in the first floor of a 3 storey building and the floor just above consists of apartments. Which means that at least until 1 am people upstairs are walking barefoot (so you can hear their feet banging on the floor with each step). Since the building is old, this also means that some kind of plumbing also vibrates within the ceiling. The effect is unpleasant... The hotel is in a good area, 10-15 minutes walk to the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. Restaurants close-by. Also note that it is within the zone where car entrance is restricted. Final opinion: quaint, but overpriced (like most of Florence).

Great hotel for a Florence vacation

Posted Jun 7, 2016
The best thing about the hotel is the wonderful staff. They gave us excellent advice about everything we asked, all the little things tourists need. The tips about eating were especially good, where to eat good local food for a good price. We stayed in a double room, not huge but a good size, the high ceilings give a feeling of even more space. The hotel is a little bit off center, which is a plus in my mind. All the attractions are still within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel is easily accessible by bus if your feet get tired.

hotel review

Pros: Some of the hotel employees and the daily breakfast array.
Cons: Very little considering its age and location.
Location: Nothing in the way of entertainment. Tourist attractions all require a 15 minute or more quick walk.
A little away (10 minute walk) from the main tourist area. Hotel is on second floor with a very small elevator to service it for luggage or guests who don't wish to climb a flight of stairs. Only a small number of local restaurants nearby. Traveling in early November meant nightfall came around 5:00pm. Because restaurants in Europe don't typically open until 7:00pm you have 2 hours or so between the end of your sightseeing and when you can first begin your dinner hour. A close in hotel works fine for that because it allows you to freshen up and relax a bit before deciding among the many nearby restaurants. The location of this one however meant you either were willing to spend some 15-20 minutes walking to get back to it before dinner and another 10 plus minutes to walk to a restaurant other than the few available in the nearby area. Some staff members were aloof while others were very friendly. Overall it served its purpose of providing a quiet place to get some rest and have a decent breakfast each morning. It is a 10 minute cab ride from the train station.
