The room we stayed was much hotter than we expected. Also, it was very uncomfortable to take shower because they didn't have a shower curtain. However, the outdoor view was breathtaking.

Spectacular location in Tuscany
We had stayed at Villa Pittiana before, many years ago, and wanted to return to this beautiful part of Italy and what we remembered as a lovely hotel. We were allocated to the 'Tower Suite' which was a nice spacious room with a great view over the valley at the side of the hotel, a bit spartan, but at the top of a steep flight of about 20 stairs, which was a bit daunting. It should have done with more than one comfortable chair in a 'suite' where there was plenty of space. We enjoyed a nice dinner but the service was a bit slow and at breakfast tables were left uncleared, so we had to lay our own table! The staff seemed to have their minds on other matters and the boiled eggs ran out. When we stayed some years ago, dining was available on the lawn outside the dining room but that was no longer available, which was disappointing. We got the impression that the hotel had been allowed to get a bit run down and shabby. The gardens were unkempt which is a pity in such a beautiful place. There was a nice pool but we did not have time to try it.

Faded beauty but warm welcome
Wonderful friendly helpful staff but nowhere near enough of them. Would love to see this incredible grand house brought back to glory. It needs a little love. 1st few days frustrated by rarity of a barman broken air conditioner and kids camp beds. But the staff did everything they could for us always with enthusiasm. By day 10 we didn't want to leave. It's peaceful the grounds are stunning and there's plenty of beautiful quiet corners to take a book

Quiet Holiday in the countryside
The room was quite spacious for a family of four. We particularly enjoyed the high ceiling. It was well kept and clean. The shower was somewhat cramped though. We had fun playing table tennis on the grounds and enjoying the seasonal pool. Breakfast was enjoyable as it offered a lot of variety.

Excellent Villa in the Tuscany countryside
Everything was awesome (we got a nice upgrade for our Anniversary). Excellent old time Villa with the Renaissance feel that we wanted. Absolutely beautiful and the staff was great - especially Thomas. If you have a rental car there are plenty of things to do within a 2 hour drive (we went to Pisa and San Gimignano). The food was awesome and the wait staff was great (even though the hotel was very full). We will definitely come back and wished we would have spent our entire trip at this location.

Great family room, beautiful view!
This was our first time here and in the Tuscany region. Having moved here from North America we are somewhat challenged finding hotels that can accommodate a family. This place was great for families. We had a great time during the first week of May. Not warm enough for the pool yet (closed). Staff was very helpful and attentive. Food at the hotel was also very good for dinner and also typical Italian breakfast buffet. There is a ping pong table outside that the kids played with but the paddles needed replacing and table was not level, but still fun for our little ones. The family room was a delight (large bed upstairs and two single beds downstairs in a separate bedroom). We would come back again to see what it is like during the summer months and for the kids to enjoy the pool. The view from our room was amazing, overlooking the hill and pool.

a nice visit in Tuscany
It is a unique experience to stay in Villa Pitiana. It is like staying in a museum. The villa is alittle run down and the pool needs to be cleaned. The food is excellent. The rooms are big but warm in the summer time. Our rooms had no air conditioning.

Beautiful Views
The staff was wonderfully accomodating when we had an issue stemming from 2 different buildings. Main hotel is gorgeous and the views are stunning. They have a 4 room 'guest house' that is used for 'overflow' I suspect. The hotel staff reacted accordingly when we voiced our concerns and made our stay very enjoyable.

Spectacular experience
This is exactly what you hope for when you visit Italy... a gorgeous villa, situated in a breathtaking town in the hills of Tuscany. We had to continually pinch ourselves throughout the stay to make sure we weren't dreaming. The staff is very warm and welcoming (and speak enough English to answer any questions you have). The breakfast is fabulous, in an elegant dining room with the windows wide open, a gentle breeze and the songs of birds greeting you each morning (and don't get me started on the chocolate croissants which were beyond delicious). There is WiFi and a computer in the lobby, the only evidence of the 21st century in this otherwise authentic 11th century villa. The grounds are spectacular and offer endless opportunity for meandering. An all around perfect vacation choice for anyone lucky enough to visit Italy.

Spectacular villa in the Tuscany hills.
A beautiful villa steeped in history. Staff were more than helpful and friendly. Spectacular views. A long weekend was not enough to appreciate all the sights but we managed to fit in Florence and Arezzo. If travelling by train be aware that the nearest station to the villa is 4km away so hire a car! Or walk up the hills as we did - takes 1hr 15 mins but worth it for the views.

Overall good experience, though internet was very slow and unstable, and only in the lobby. Also difficulty taking a pleasing shower as the hot water was not stable. Hotel is old (somewhat too old) but the surrounding is beautiful and relaxing.

Beautiful hotel
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful and feels like staying in a castle. The view is breathtaking, but be careful when making reservations. Only superior rooms and up have air conditioning. Luckily our stay was in September and the nights were cool enough, but it could be uncomfortable during the warmer months. Also be sure to have euros on hand because there is nowhere to exchange money. The banks won't do it, and the money exchangers in Florence will charge you a 20 percent fee that they don't include when they quote you an exchange rate. Read all the small print! Otherwise, our stay was lovely. The food at the hotel was excellent, and they sell a local olive oil that is outstanding!

Nice experience
We decided on the Pitiana from the location in Tuscany. From here we visited Florence, Pisa,Voleterra, and all the surrounding areas. True, the Pitiana was off the trail...but well worth the trip. It was an old monistary/farm transformed into a fantastic hotel. Breakfast was the same everyday (4) but substantial enough to get you started daily. The view off the loby is just unbeatable. If you like old restored homes with extremly large rooms then take the extra time and effort and drive to the Pitiana.

Great hotel
I have only positive comments about this hotel. It used to be a monastery and its set on a hill, surrounded by a lovely, peaceful garden. The hotel surroudings, the building itself, lounges and restaurant are beautiful! There are different types of rooms (we stayed in a basic one), however the view from every room is very nice thanks to the location and garden; the bathroom must have been recently renovated (very fresh), the room itself was a standard hotel room with kettle and complimentary tea, a flat screen tv, AC (the bed and pillow were a bit hard, but they have been in every hotel weve stayed at in tuscany, so it seems to be the standard). The hotel also has a great pool with complimentary sunbed and pool towels. The hotel was also only a short drive from florence and about 30min- 1 hour drive from the chianti wine region. We got a very, very good deal staying at this hotel. The price/quality ratio was superb compared to most other hotels we stayed in, (but then, we didnt pay the normal price). Breakfast was ok, similar to most other hotels in tuscany. We also had dinner at the restaurant (be sure to make reservations beforehand!), it wasnt the best we ever had but still very good! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Gorgeous
The villa is beautiful & they've done a good job preserving it's history. The view is amazing. The breakfast is pretty good, except having to boil your own eggs & then taking at least 15 min. You need to book a reservation for the restaurant, so just keep in mind if you're arriving later in the day. The room was very spacious for our family of 4. While the decor seems authentic, the bathroom was new at least. The service at breakfast could have been a little more attentive. When one of our young children spills a little or needs help, it would have been nice if the staff was paying more attention & helped us clean the table or offered more napkins.

Beautiful villa....
This was by far one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed. View, grounds and building were very nice. Food was pre-made, not too fresh and not too good at all for $. A wedding took place in the early afternoon, which was beautiful, but the party went on (and really started at 10 pm and was by far the loudest, most disrupting party I've ever witnessed. The music and screaming was so loud it shook the building, never mind that prevented any kind of sleep (even after a bottle of wine). We've never ever complained about a wedding party or kids in hall or anything like that. Not sure our day represents overall behavior of the villa, but, there was no doubt of the party's disruption and they did not turn the volume down until 2am.

Wanted to stay outside, but close to Florence. What a great find! If you like old world Europe at reasonable prices, and can live without glitz, this one is worth several days. You will need a car, but then you can explore a bit on day trips. Nothing very remarkable to see in the countryside, but on a long trip focused mostly on cities, this stay was a welcome respite.

Holy smokes
We honestly left saying no one would even believe us. It is that good. It is an historic (1063) Benedictine monestary in Tuscan countryside. A true estate. Beautiful. Beautiful views. Beautiful rooms. Modernized. It has a bar with big screen TV and WiFi so don't worry about the monestary part. It is luxurious. Best mini shampoo, soap and towels we had on our trip. Huge room with high ceilings. Huge beautiful room. Beautiful woodwork. Beautiful place. It's hard to believe. Really. Yet it was less than 100 euro per night. It's one drawback is location. We rented a car, so that is no problem. It was 40 minute drive into Florence and worth it. But if you don't have a car, I'm not sure how bad it is to get to a train or bus, that I would look into.

Great place to stay if you have your own transport. Breakfast was disappointing as was dinner the night before, poor instant coffee and not the best quality of food. This being said, it was a glorious setting, friendly service with the best check in lady ever and a great swimming pool. Could be absolutely fantastic with a little more attention to small details which lets the side down.

A very nice and classic hotel. The hotel room is literally huge!! It's actually a loft, with everything except bed on the first story. Really comfortable and clean. The view is awesome. Hotel restaurant is good too. Service is first-class. However, you will probably need a vehicle to get there conveniently.

TThe property is absolutely beautiful and way outside of Florence. The rooms are nicely furnished although the bed was a bit hard. Be sure to tour the property to take in the views and many areas to enjoy the sun. The breakfast is plentiful with lots of variety. One issue of safety is locking the door from the inside with a real key, not a swipe card. The restaurant dinner menu is over-priced. 4 Euro for an 8oz soda and 12 Euro for 5 pieces of ravioli is a bit much. WiFi did not work in the room but the hotel lobby has a computer and WiFi there. When you pass through Donnini, be sure to stop at Ristorante il Cacciatore, approximately 1km from the Villa. Excellent food and service.

Very good find- great place.
As a young family, we were very impressed with Villa Pitiana. Its a lovely old manstery converted to a hotel, with vast grounds and beautiful surrounds. Our stay was too short to enjoy what the hotel had to offer- so will definitely be going back. BUT- Finding it late at night can be a little tricky- It made it easier because we had a satnav and had rented a car. Close enough to Florence if you have a car, and want to access the other cities and the motorway. May be a little out of the way, if you want a quick city break, relying on public transport.

The hotel is a grand old estate...histry runs deep. The grounds are beautiful and the views are of fabulous Tuscany countryside. The hotel is older with antique furnishings in the rooms. The beds are modern and comfortable, the baths updated. Close to Florence and the winery trail. A place that a car is almost a must. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Paradise a stones throw from Florence
What a beautiful hotel in an outstanding setting. We had a room for three which was large and beautifully furnished. The restaurant food on the night we ate there was outstanding. There is also a great little pizza place in the village which is within walking distance (1km). We had a rental car and idi day trips, but for our day in Florence we drove to S. Ellero (4km away and the parking is free) and took the train (3 Euro each) to Florence as I understand the traffic and parking is horrendous. We bought a picnic one evening which we atr in the grounds of Villa Pitiana accompanied by one of their bottles of wine. Can't wait to go back!

It was a good hotel, had a history behind it, many antique furniture, the location was hard to find even with the navigator, we had to stop and ask few local shops and people to make sure we were on the right track, but once we got there we certainly enjoyed the view. We went with our two young kids which I dont' recommend for family in this time of the year (Apr), mostly it is a location for honey-mooners... Also for a 4 star hotel,I was surprised that it didn't offe a wifi connectiion in the rooms.
