Inflexible, Unaccommodating Staff- Never again!

We booked a stay 4/5-9 for a horse show. I called Expedia and they said a refund was okay and just had to get the confirmation from the front desk in the morning but no further action was needed by me. My mistake was not formally checking out at the front desk when we left. As result, the hotel denied the refund stating I'd stayed the night. Even withe the Expedia rep pursuing it, the manager said she had to check w/the general manager who ultimately said no. Had I known it would be denied, I would have stayed instead of losing $150! The hotel was inflexible and unsympathetic. Expedia should have told me I needed to check out in person (which no one does any more) to ensure there would be no issue. Very dissatisfied and out a lot of money!!
Separate from this, the staff on site was sarcastic, never said, 'hello/goodbye', and the noise level was awful. DO NOT recommend!!!!!
