Tired and over priced.

Pros: Setting
Cons: As above, tired, only needs a little investment to make a big difference.
Had an outside room in what I imagine was an old stable block. The room was stifling hot, with only one window that opened. No wifi at all, no offer of a fan, really badly designed room, why not have windows that open?! Fairly recent conversion, so not impossible to do. And no wifi? For £100, very disappointed.

Hotel in the Forest of Dean

Pros: It was very friendly and the food was delicious.
Cons: We had only one chair in our room, so one person had to sit on the bed.
Location: It is just a few miles away from some beautiful spots, such as Westbury Court Garden, Painswick Ricoco garden and Symonds Yat Rock - spectacular views
The hotel is in the Forest of Dean and is full of character and history; where children and dogs are welcome. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, although the menu was mostly the same each day, with a couple of specials to add a bit of variety. Set next to an arboretum and forest walks, it is a wonderful place for someone who likes walking. For children, Puzzlewood, nearby is an exciting place with farm animals, special events and walks in the woods (it was used to film 'Lord of the Rings').

I booked this hotel for a visit to the Steam Show

Pros: I must add how excellent the food was and the breakfast was one of best self service I have ever tasted in my forty years of frequent travelling.
Cons: Nothing, pure heaven.
Location: No comment as I enjoyed the vintage steam show held on site and the drive around showed that there is plenty to do in the area
I had queried my booking as previous experiences from others reported that if a wedding party was held during stay it was very noisy,my experience was the opposite. The vintage show being held on the grounds during the weekend brought during the evening two Showman steam engines to the front entrance and had them running until late.Everybody I spoke to during the evening and following morning enjoyed this and could not complain as standing outside next to these produced minimal noise and could not be heard from inside the hotel even it was single glazed. There was also a wedding party the same weekend which I never heard..I will definitely stay at this hotel again as the staff were very professional and friendly and nothing was a problem to them even as busy the hotel was that evening. Thank you Speech House for an excellent weekend.

A really nice hotel in the middle of the forest

Pros: Lots of character.
Cons: A lift.
Location: Right in the middle of the forest.
A hotel with lots of character. Excellent staff. A reasonable size room & bathroom. Everything spotlessly clean. Ate in the bar for both nights of our 2 night stay. Food in the was good, but quite limited in choice. Didn't try the restaurant. Very good breakfast included in the room rate. The only drawback, our room was on the second floor, with no lift.

Pros: Quiet and familiar
Cons: There is always something but cannot put my finger on it now. (It is Mothers day! = champagne.
As ex owners of house in the forest, we have known the Speech House for many years; it is much improved! We were told that because there were so few diners, we could not eat in the main restaurant. We do not understand why this was so. Staff were courteous and helpful.

The hotel is quaint and atmospheric, located right in the middle of the forest. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are very old fashioned but clean and comfortable. WiFi is free but very slow. The best place to stay if you want to be on the forest's doorstep.

Nice location

Pros: The size of the room, the food in restaurant and the staff
Cons: More heating in bedroom. Blind to bathroom window. Breakfast menu stated fresh coffee would be served but it was not fresh.
Location: Lovely location right in the Forest of Dean
Room was cold - radiator not big enough for size of room. Mattress tipped us into middle of bed. Room overpriced. Awful coffee at breakfast - think it had been made for some time. Food in restaurant was very good.

Pros: The food was excellent - very tasty, with attentive, friendly waitresses.
Location: Located centrally in the Forest of Dean - well suited to explore the area by car or on foot.
Have stayed here twice previously and the quality and service was as good as ever. My room was in one of the buildings located at the back and was very clean and well presented. Bathroom was of a reasonable size.
