Very disappionting accomodations

This was our third stay at this location. The hotel and has steadily gone downhill each year. Last year the advertised heated pool wasn't. This year the place seems to be falling apart with no attempt to do any upgrades or renovations. In 5 days our room was cleaned just one time without even being asked if we needed anything or simply leaving clean towels. The air conditioner leaked all over our clothes. The beach chairs are all falling apart, with just a couple that are intact. We pick this place because we like the smallness and mom and pop feel of the place. The location is perfect for us; close to town, grocery shopping, dining, and on the beach. This is an important consideration as we fly in and don't want to rent a car. This is a vacation from the hustle and bustle and this hotel was our choice. Unfortunately, we spent one day of our stay searching for a place to stay next year. We will not be returning.

This place looked so sweet online...and the lovely beachside location definitely influenced our decision. BUT we booked well-ahead of our stay and at the time, none of the reviews described the extremely poor condition of this hotel. It had a 3.5 rating - middle of the pack - so we thought it could work for us. We were SHOCKED when we arrived. Although the beds were comfortable and clean, the building and rooms themselves are in horrid condition. Stucco - inside and out - is crumbling, steel structural elements are rusting through exterior surfaces, exterior and interior furniture is old, dirty or broken, interior elements (eg: towel racks and cabinet doors) are broken, toilets are old and stained, electric outlets do not work, there are little if no supplies in unclean kitchenettes. When we asked the office staff - who tried their best to accommodate us given the situation - if there was a room in better condition, we were told the place was closing in less than a week and new owners would be remodeling (the only details mentioned had to do with the exterior, however...so if you decide to try this place when it reopens, we advise asking about the condition of the rooms!) They moved us to a bigger unit, and although it was in better condition, it too was in dire need of attention. It's reprehensible Expedia continues to list places like this. We were traveling to the opposite coast and trusted in Expedia's reputation when booking our room. Well...never again!!!

Cons: Do not include the hotel on Expedia. Have your staff evaluate the Hotel in person, I am sure they would validate this suggestion.
Location: Excellent location and things to do, but unprofessional staff and poor property conditions (dirty, cracking walls, rails, posts, and balconies).
Was told we could not check in until 3pm. Our confirmation with Expedia was for check in at 2pm. Staff unprofessional, stated Expedia was wrong (although, several websites advertised 2pm check in as well for this hotel). Staff further elaborated that they had a maid call off the morning of our reserved reservation and that they had a full house the night before, so no rooms were available until 3 pm. One of deciding factors in choosing this hotel was for the 2pm check in so that we had plenty of time to get dressed and ready for our wedding anniversary plans. The 2pm check in time advertised is on several web sites for months (I have been looking at Lauderdale By The Sea Hotels for months online). When I informed the check in receptionist of this she stated I was rude. I felt so uncomfortable by her remarks and hand gestures, I knew I could not stay at this hotel. In addition the Hotel is very ran down, dirty, cracks in walls, posts, railings and balconies. Ask to speak with Manager Renee, waited for 40 minutes. Per Renee we could not check in until 3 and if we did not want to stay they would not refund our money. She offered an affiliate hotel down the street to us instead, but when we went there, they said we would have to pay again (Captains Quarters). We did not want to deal with this management, staff and conditions. We went to another hotel down the beach and got a room. This was a really sickening experience. Hopefully this hotel will be shut down soon.

quiet hotel on the beach

We enjoyed our stay. Pool and rooms were very clean. Hotel is a little old but well kept up. Not a 4 star place but very nice. Grove of palm trees as you walk out to beach with nice shade. Sometimes thats as far as I got. Very relaxing.

Cons: Water leaks.
The hotel was pleasing and clean but the upkeep of the hotel leaves it lacking. It rained and water was coming through the window frame and the ceiling before we changed rooms.

Pros: the room was perfect with a balcony facing the ocean
Cons: the ceiling fan didn work very well but it was tolerable
Location: Was very easy to find great place to stay
The staff at this hotel was awesome and very friendly. We were very lucky to have found this hotel, And will stay there again
