Nice, quiet very close to beachPosted Aug 15, 2015
Easy fast check in and out. No charge to print boarding passes. No charge for very nice beach chairs. Staff helpful when our door jammed. Wifi five steps from ocean water made it great to post photos. I wondered before our stay about the kitchen amenities. For the record our kitchenette had: full sized frig, stove and microwave, small sink, dish drainer, four each of plates, bowls, saucers, coffee cups, nice drinking glasses. Skillet and two sauce pans, strainer, glass bowls, dish drainer, dish towel, two ice trays, full set of silverware and assorted kitchen tools including wine opener. Coffee maker but no coffee. Toaster. Nice place to spray off after beach, clothesline, screened balcony (motel-style room which Expedia called standard room). The motel room was good. We hoped for a cottage but we spent so little time in the room that it was just fine. Sanibel in general is nice and not so crowded feeling as Captiva, we thought. We want to go back!!!

Enjoyed our stay at ShalimarPosted Aug 13, 2015
Pros: On the beach!
Our stay at this hotel was scheduled at the last minute and management was very accommodating. We would definitely return.

Close to beach. And.......that's about it, folks!Posted Aug 12, 2015
Cons: Taking better care of their property, first of all. The swimming pool was chipping paint and looked like it hadn't been taken care of for years.
Location: We absolutely love being on Sanibel! So, the location on the beach was fabulous. The accommodations, however, were not.
It was a motel room that lacked any insulation between floors or the walls. Sleeping was a nightmare.

Good location, overpriced....Posted Jul 14, 2015 on Hotels
Rooms were overpriced. Very noisy - can hear your neighbors. No room service!? Front office refused to give my wife towels because it was past 1pm... really??

Would stay at Shalimar Cottages again!Posted Jun 4, 2015 on Hotels
The only reason I did not give this 5 Bars - The light was broken in the kitchen so I had very little light in there. There were a few tiny ants in the bathroom. My room was never serviced while I was there, but that may be the policy to only clean every 3 or 4 days. I was only there 3 days. I would absolutely stay there again. Very nice and convenient. The pool was great and they offered an ice machine.

Nice but noiseyPosted Apr 8, 2015
The staff was great. The location can not be beat! We stayed in the motel building and had the perfect views for sunsets . The whole place is loaded with charm! One warning- if you are wanting quiet choose a cottage NOT the motel!!! The walls are floors are paper thin and you will hear every move your neighbors make and every word of every conversation. Great for loud families but not for a peaceful stay.

Nice stay at the beachPosted Feb 15, 2015
Pros: The hotel is steps from the beach. The room has a balcony which was a very nice feature with screen at each end providing adequate privacy.
Cons: The owners need to begin renewing the room interiors. The flooring and trim shows signs of wear.
Location: Besides walking the beaches and biking there aren't many other attractions. The place is very low key.
The weather was good enough at the beginning of the week then became "to die for" good. This is important since there really isn't much else to do in Sanibel unless you can go outside. The motel is middle of the road in terms of condition it is right on the beach and that is one very special asset it has going for it. Shortly after arriving at the room we noticed 2 Queen sized beds instead of a king size bed. We were told after asking that there are a limited number of king size beds available. This is not obvious from the online ad. Maid service is not available unless the stay is for a whole week, this too was not obvious from the ad. The staff we encountered is very pleasant and helped us with renting bikes, reasonably priced, which we did once the weather cleared. There were some surprises. Driving can be tedious due to the 30 mph speed limit throughout the island with occasional 25 mph posts. Restaurants and shops are fairly spread out so driving is a must unless you can bike and tote goods purchased. The pace is slow and very relaxing. The island is beautiful and virtually everything we saw was well maintained. You might have to be creative with small children to keep them occupied.
