Large beachfront condo

Posted Feb 9, 2016
We enjoyed our stay in the beach villas. It was a large apartment overlooking the beach with a gorgeous view of the sunset from a screened in porch. Kitchen was handy...didn't have salt n pepper or a spatula but everything else we needed was there. No HD cable so the superbowl looked like it was being played in 1982, but hey turn off the tv and go to the beach! We took a ride up to the north point marina and there were very nice amenities there too. We also had a great couples massage in the spa. Very nice resort overall. We loved Captiva!

Great Location but Suite in need of Refurbishment

Posted Feb 8, 2016
The location on the tip of Captiva is just great and the resort grounds, beaches and facilities are top end. The guest suite we stayed in was big, well located and well serviced. Our only gripe was the settee and bed which are past their best and aggravate my weak back. Off resort; Captiva 'town' is wonderful to walk round and there are a good selection of eateries and watering holes.

2nd visit for us

Posted Feb 8, 2016
Pros: Friendly staff. Clean facilities, beautiful grounds & wonderful amenities
Cons: No
Location: Food was great everywhere we went. Ding Darling was beautiful to hike & drive
We visited when they first opened after hurricane Charley. The harbor side view rooms have not been renovated since then but they are comfortable. We had ants in our room & on our bed but it is Florida, so we did not complain. Our view of the harbor was obscured by incredibly large private boats but we did get to see a dolphin once. The weather was uncooperative but we made the best of it. Not a ton to do when it's in the 50's, very windy & rainy. The outdoor pools are heated to 80 & there's a nice hot tub. The trolley runs the property which is nice (it used to go all the way into town but that has also changed). We arrived at 10p so not much is open to have food. The person who registered us offered us some of his pizza, so kind. We loved this resort before & are very happy with our newest stay. We will return again. Hopefully Mother Nature will provide us with some warm Florida sun!

Comfortable hotel, nice pools

Posted Feb 7, 2016
Pros: The pools and the sunset beach
Cons: Only used the pool a couple of times, but was told the additional resort fee was to cover the cost of maintaining pool towels.
Location: We were at the very end of Captiva and although the area was nice, it was over 1/2 hour every time we left the island to check out the local areas.
Great hotel staff and housekeeping staff. The pools were awesome and the trolley was a nice feature. The extremely high added resort fee was very disappointing so we will probably not return.

Thank you for staying with us at South Seas Island Resort. I am pleased to know your stay was a memorable one. The pools and Resort Pool Complex on property is an enjoyable way to spend the day. The trolley is a convenient way to navigate our 330 acre resort village. I hope to welcome you back to Captiva. With Warm Regards, Neil Swetz Dir of Guest Services

nice interlude

Posted Jan 30, 2016
Pros: quietness, lush grounds, friendlessness of staff
Cons: condo had chipped tiles in the bathroom and two of the three units had plumbing issues
Location: loved the remoteness of the property. although this would not suit a lot of people, i liked how few people were around
bayside villas have an excellent location - close to the amenities of captive and the small shopping center. second time stay and this time recommended it to brother and brother in law so it was sort of a family reunion. had condos next to each other which made it fun

Great location. Excellent rooms.

Posted Jan 26, 2016
Pros: Location as good as it gets for a island getaway.
Cons: Rooms are getting a bit dated.
Location: Restaurants off site were great but everything on Captiva is pricey but excellent.
Great location. Marina area was fun to be around. Pricey but food was great. Rooms were spacious but some service was a bit lacking. People very friendly.

Not so nice for the money.

Posted Jan 25, 2016
Property is way over priced for the rooms. Repairs needed thru out. The plaster was falling from the ceiling on the screen porch in our 3rd story unit. The grounds were in need extensive work. Ground level junk storage, partially hidden by lattice boards, underneath the unit we stayed in. Beach units need paint on the outside. Staff was very helpful, room was super clean.

Disappointed

Posted Jan 21, 2016
Pros: Shelling was awesome!
Cons: Realize we are guest and be more accommodating vs. it's not our fault!
Location: Everything very spread out, golfing, beach, pool, boat dock, trolley was available to take you 2 miles to small shopping and restaurant.
Due to unknown circumstances cable went out for 2 days, it normally might not have been such a big deal, however very cold unable to enjoy outside. The next couple of days storms came through knock electric off. I understand weather is no ones fault, but daily charge for so called accommodation, lounge chairs, pool, cable, wifi, we were unable to use but charged. Frustrated week for sure!

Thank you for sharing your experience. My sincere apologies about the power outages and weather that you had experienced while visiting. At times circumstances are out of our control, however, our guest experience is our number 1 priority. I do hope that a return trip (with better weather) can be planned once again to enjoy the beaches of Captiva.

Upscale Family Vacation on Captiva

Posted Jan 20, 2016
Pros: The location for sure.
Cons: Could be better staffed, seemed on the light side and a few employees seemed rushed.
Location: This resort takes over a great percentage of this island but there are many things to do on the resort. Sanibel and Fort Myers are extremely close.
While we were only at the South Seas Island Resort a short time we were able to relax thoroughly. While I have stayed at more plush accommodations the overall feel was better than average. The island itself and this particular location on the island is what is able to keep it a recommended facility. Like most resorts that are self contained the costs of everything is way above what you would pay over trying to do it "a la carte." But that's the cost of convenience I suppose. The staff in general were friendly and receptive. Some went beyond their job description and were noticeable others seemed rushed but friendly. There were many family friendly activities and that worked well for my 9 year old. Bringing family members that lived close in for a visit was a little logistical but worked out in the end. The smart phone app that they suggest is not well done (user interface is poor in my opinion) but the trolley tracker did help though it did not always have both the trolleys tracked. Overall, I would recommend this resort to families that want to enjoy a tremendously beautiful island! Just prepare to spend some for it.
