Enjoy sitting on the balcony with family and friends to take in the downtown scene and get an overview of this quaint town. Relax in the sprawling backyard by a wood fire pit. Steps to restaurants, shops, galleries. The location sets this place apart. The home is nestled in the heart of Fredericksburg on Main St. near Lincoln St. Within a block and a half, you find 11 restaurants, the best shopping/art galleries and the town's coolest bars and live music venues. This Historic Victorian home was built in 1889 by Dr. Albert Keidel as his office and residence. Dr. Keidel's name is still on the iron gate and on the lintel over the front door. Two front doors? This is perhaps a vestige of the old German/Texan custom of having a direct entry into the parlor. Homes having two front doors are common and can be seen on most Sunday houses around town. The formal entry hall was still something of a novelty for Fredericksburg in 1889. As you walk in, you will find the entry sitting area, a perfect spot for coffee and a good book, including comfy chairs, a warm lamp and original watercolors by Dr. Keidel's grandson. The parlor is to the left. It and the rest of the home was beautifully decorated by a renowned Hill Country designer Melissa Estes. The parlor boasts two separate sitting areas and a 55 inch tv. To the right you will find the formal dining, the original doctor's office, which leads to a cozy breakfast nook. The kitchen, with it's original cabinetry and nickel countertops, has been updated with modern stainless appliances. Bake a cheesecake in the KitchenAid, steam bake convection oven, enjoy filtered water/ice and keep your wine chilled in the large LG refrigerator, clean the dishes using the Fisher&Paykel dishwasher. The kitchen is well stocked with essentials. Off the nook is another sitting and bar area with a fantastic view of the backyard. You will find a restroom and downstairs bedroom with two twin beds. Sleep well on handmade mattresses and Matouk sheets. All bedrooms have custom draperies designed to block light and sound, an alarm clock, charging stations and thick bathrobes. The bathrooms offer local soaps and lotion and plush Matouk towels and bathmats. A hand carved, deep mahogany staircase takes you upstairs where you will find three bedrooms with king beds, TV's and a bathroom. You can get an overview of this quaint town from the huge balcony. The backyard is sprawling with towering trees, turn of the century structures and ample space for soccer or touch football. There is seating around a real wood fire pit with plenty of split oak.
