I picked this Inn because one of the website has scuba diving, turns out the scuba owner retired last year. The service and staff are excellent although limited in what they can assist on activities. The place is out of the way, it's best to rent a car. It's about 20 minutes walk to the Port Lucayan Market. Vibration from music from a quarter mile away can be heard, so if you're a light sleeper, this could be an issue. Very convenient restaurant 'Upstairs on the Bay' has good food and excellent Conch Chowder.

My stay at Bell Channel was enjoyable, the hotel staff and restaurant staff are friendly and helpful, especially Roberta in housekeeping. The property is well maintained and rooms clean. The only negative is there is no elevator and I was on the 3rd floor and have injured knees which were very swollen and sore by day 3 and for the rest of my 7day stay.

As for the area we are located in, we like that our neighborhood is quiet as it is perfect for guests who wish to relax. We are far enough away from Port Lucaya's (sometimes) loud music at night, but still within walking distance for when you want to join in the fun. Our island is still showing signs here and there from the devastating Hurricane Dorian that flooded 80% of our island, but the island is bouncing back. The road we are located on is quiet and has a few unused properties, but it is mostly upscale condominiums and a new resort is being developed with luxury bungalows. Our property has an amazing restaurant and next to our property there is a nice bar and a small market & Café, where they do yoga as well. Overall, Bell Channel Inn is a great choice if you are looking for a quiet, quaint, family operated hotel, that believes in cleanliness and great customer service!We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Freeport.

A pleasant family hotel
Bell Channel Inn is close enough to the Port Lucaya Marketplace to walk there and close enough to the Lucaya Shopping Center to get groceries at Solomon’s with a taxi ride back (public bus service was unreliable). There’s a small pool on the property and lots of beach chairs. The restaurant on the third floor is open from 7:30 in the morning until 11 at night. The food was good and reasonably priced. The front desk staff was always helpful. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed, a small refrigerator and microwave (but no utensils), and a shower. The air conditioner and ceiling fan kept the room cool. There was a balcony with 2 chairs. The flat screen TV had a variety of American channels, some Bahamaian channels and music channels. The wifi coverage was spotty. It was good in the lobby and the restaurant but less reliable in my room at the end of the building. I found that the signal improved if I placed my mobile device close to the TV signal box but it went in and out constantly. E-mail and web surfing were OK but forget about streaming videos. I’m glad I stayed there.

Also we host a Spaghetti Western Line Dance Party the last Friday of each month, where we offer food, drinks and lots of dancing down by the pool - everyone is welcome!

Please allow me to explain that the 20 10% VAT (22) is not only a cleaning fee but is a combination of various fees such as power surcharge and the VAT tax as well. We thought it would be easier for our guests to calculate their final costs if we consolidate them under one term: “Service charge” instead of having a long list of additional fees, like a lot of other hotels have. Thank you for bringing that up, thus giving us an opportunity to explain what that fee entails. Again, thank you for taking the time to write a review and giving us a 5/5 for your stay!

Great stay, clean, comfortable and good food!
Very clean. We just asked for fresh towels after the first night and they cleaned entire room and changed bed covers! Great view of harbor. Restaurant on site with very good food, especially breakfast. You get a free Bahamian drink with your stay! I would definately go back.

Nice place. Nice staff. Fixtures like shower and toilet not working well and everything a little thread-bare. Reasonable price. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to someone if they asked.

The staff at the Inn are amazing. Early check in since our plane was 4 hours before check in time. Housekeeping always wanting to know what was needed in the room and brought every day. One of the staff offered to take us and bring us back to a local fish fry. On site tour guide that can take you anywhere on the island for a reasonable fee. On site restaurant superb. Prices reasonable. Room spacious. Bed comfy. Air conditioning and ceiling fan kept room very comfortable. Coffee maker with coffee provided daily. Fridge and microwave as well. All rooms have beautiful view of Bell Chanel. Pool and pool deck well maintained. Ice plentiful. Quiet safe area. Market place and public beach 15 to 20 minute easy flat walk. Diving was not available at resort as advertised and apparently will be in future. However staff hooked us up with Grand Bahama scuba who came and got us and dropped us back off with no problem and a very short ride.

I guess you get what you pay for? Honestly just needed a place to rest my head for a few days while hanging out with family who live on the island. The room was a bit dirty behind the night stand. Balcony was dirty as well. Sheets and comforter on one of the beds had stains on it. Restaurant upstairs closes at 10 due to a curfew set in place, verbiage on site and online still show it’s open until 11 which can be deceiving to people staying there and don’t know about the curfew. The restaurant food for breakfast and staff were great though! Location is great, close to Port Lucaya. This won’t be my first location of choice in the future sadly.

A complicated stay.
The stay was okay staff is friendly one problem if your towel is changed you’re not able to receive a new set right away because they are being washed. The room is non smoking but it sure smell smoky when we got in had to get spray from front desk. The housekeepers were very nice and helpful. A peasant wanted to be confrontational with me for looking at my friends coming to pick me up and housekeeper had to speak with her about her behavior to a guest.

We came back as we stayed here last year. Jeanie is very welcoming and helpful; ordering us taxis for shopping & the airport. They provide a coupon for a free drink in the bar for all 3 of us and the restaurant serves great food quickly. The room C-1 was lacking as there was a very small weak stream of water in the sink; however the shower was fine. And we only had 2 sets of towels when there are 3 of us. No beach but nice view of harbor & Lucayan Marketplace.

Very basic, bed was made every day. Shower and bath cleaned. Patio door had 10mm gap in it so all sounds outside very clear. When it was windy there was a loud howling over and above the AC. Morning staff friendly at breakfast. Evening staff not very welcoming, felt very uncomfortable and took my evening meals in my room after the second night there.

I wish we were aware of the issue with the windy sounds over the A/C when you were here, so we could have either fixed it immediately or happily moved you to another room. The staff at Bell Channel Inn were amazing. Very kind and helpful. The restaurant/bar upstairs was great as well. The location and the view from all rooms was good. It’s a little dated, but i didn’t pay for a 5 start hotel. Great place for the $$$.

A good first stay
The location was good. It is walking distance to a beach and Port Lucaya Marketplace. A slightly longer walk to Taino beach if you want to go there (local fish fry and party every Wednesday at 6 pm). The facilities were decent and good value for the price. The shower head was a little short (I'm 6'1"), angled away from where one would normally stand while showering, and couldn't be readjusted. The light switches were tricky to use. Sometimes they would get stuck, sometimes they were easy to use. The convenience of having a restaurant right upstairs was a nice option. Though the service was inconsistent, the food was pretty good as long as you're not expecting fine dining. The front desk staff at the inn were fabulous. Some of the other hotel staff were a little rigid and condescending but had good intentions. There were some great opportunities through the hotel for tours and events around the island. Would stay again if there weren't any affordable options closer to the beach.
