Wish I could review this hotel

Pros: never did stay there
Cons: booking
Location: great local , great people
I received confirmation of my hotel room in February. When I arrived in September I was told that my party was moved to another hotel without explanation. I arrived in the other hotel and it did not have thesuperior suit I had booked. I also had to pay cab fare to go to the other hotel. After checking my room, I went back to the reception desk and asked if this was a mistake. I was informed that it was not their problem and that I would have to contact the original hotel. A couple of days later I walked to the original hotel and was told that I should have gotten the info from my new hotel and that the new hotel would contact me. It never happened. AARP did refund part of my payment but I hope that anyone else file complaints against this hotel. It seems that the British had no problems but Americans certainly were not treated with respect. My brother-in-law and out wives are senior citizens and retired military. We still wonder what we did wrong to deserve this treatment. It cost each of us an additional 800 dollars for meals. AARP did make a partial reimbursement to us when we informed them of the problem

Pestana Mira Mar Garden Resort April 2017

Hotel was very good, the buffet was quite expensive, the other restaurants on site were very good. The grounds were excellent and the staff were first class.Although the Wi-Fi was very poor in the bedrooms, the only place for a good signal strength was at the reecptions!

Not bad

Pros: Planting/gardens, pools, peace and quiet.
Location: Good location; short walk into town or bus ride. Loads of things to do near the hotel, too many to mention on this site.
Nice hotel, nice pools, clean and tidy, staff generally very helpful and polite, breakfast good, coffee possibly the worst I have ever tasted. Good for couples, kids -everyone. Air-con did not work for the first week of our stay and had no back up fans (I had to supply my room number before they said no to the fan, I assume this was because I was not in a superior room!). They reserved 500euros on my card and although they said it had been cancelled on a few occasions, it was not (leaving me with limited funds) so they get a low mark because of this. They charge you 5euros a day for parking which I think is a bit cheeky. Entertainment was similar to what you find at hotels in Bournemouth!

Nice hotel, in great position

Pros: Cleanliness, and good service.
Cons: entertainment
Had a great holiday in this hotel. The 3 restaurants served good food. Bars and snack bars very good. If you want a quiet holiday this would suit you fine.

confusing but convenient

Pros: The lovely gardens, the pool area, well supplied with loungers, the breakfasts with excellent choice of foods, the convenient location.
Cons: Information - to be given at check in or in a folder in room. Kitchen, tiny and only basically equipped. Maintenance problems raised,not dealt with.
Location: Very convenient, an easy walk to the centre or the Lido, buses stop outside, plenty of restaurants nearby.
We had not realised this resort was 2 hotels combined, so checked in where we had booked, the Miramar, to be taken along long corridors and up 2 lifts, to our room which ended up in the Village resort. We then had several very uncertain hours as we were given no information about things like the room safe, wi fi and hotel amenities, and getting around the resort was confusing. Once settled, we were very comfortable, our room ( studio superior), a good size, though unfortunately our balcony faced north so we never sat out as we got no sun, it had a wonderful view over the city and mountain, but the grey cloud glowering over the mountain nearly the whole time, did not encourage cheerfulness!

On our anniversary

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel and find it just right for us. The staff are lovely, the area great, and the gardens the best. Would recommend to all, possibly too quiet if you have children.

Good hotel in Funchal hotel zone

Pros: Location: in hotel zone but easily walkable to Funchal centre and old town.
Cons: Taste of coffee at breakfast.
Location: Scenic old town all lit up for Christmas. Many cafes and good fish restaurants. Excellent bus service locally and across island. Levada walking.
All pretty good. Excellent breakfast, though coffee from machines could be better. Room had everything required. Nice meal in restaurant. Price very reasonable for quality when booked through Expedia for Christmas period.

nice hotel but needs some modernisation,

Pros: it is very Colonial & nice to look at but I think it shoould be upgraded before the Carlton
Cons: the kitchenetts so so people who want to self cater can do so comfortably
Location: Location is great a short walk to the town centre, loads of things to do for young & old
the hotel needs up dating, we booked self catering with B&B as we both have dietary needs, when we got there we found the kitchen was not up to Pestana's standard so we changed rooms, the new room was not any better a faulty kettle which was replaced for another faulty kettle, the fridge was a drinks fridge so we could not get much food inside, NO cooking utensils, NO micowave, NO toaster, remember we booked self catering Hence we will not be back to the Mira Mar!!!!!!
