New Years in Madeira at the Pestana Royal

Cons: Buffet food was not warm enough.
Location: Forum mall within walking distance. Taxi to city, casino was not expensive. Great restaurants.
This is one of the best resorts I have been to. The staff were amazing, The views spectacular. The New Years Celebration that they provided was so memorable. Best views of the fireworks!!! If we needed a cab, they got us the best at the best price. Recommended what to see, how to get there, best restaurants.We had wonderful times at the lounge where entertainment was provided nightly. The entertainment was awesome too!! They made us feel like family and that we mattered to them. We needed to get a hotel in Lisbon for our layover home. They went out of the way to help us book. What a blessing that was, the storm up the NE coast of USA caused us to stay in Lisbon an extra 4 days. The recommended hotel was listed as 3* and was by far a 5*.Everything that they did for us was above and beyond.

Pros: It was quiet in an excellent location with a courtesy bus to the town. Good quality facilities and well maintained.
Cons: Smarten up male staff - ie no jeans rule.
Location: There were virtually no facilities in the immediate location but a small shop within the hotel. We did not find this inconvenient though.
The buffet was disappointing on some days I think due to the comparatively low room occupancy during I stay. What there was was good but I struggled sometimes to find a choice a liked. It would be good if the staff were provided with uniform trousers rather than jeans which I think sends the wrong message but all the staff gave excellent service

Great, clean hotel with superb staff

Pros: The Staff, Cleanliness. Food Choices, Courtesey Bus Service, Easy Parking, Wifi, Lunch Boxes.
Cons: Would prefer separate shower in bathroom. Door stop in middle of bathroom floor is a trip hazard. Milk for room mini-fridge
Location: It's on the west side of the Funchal hotel area. Stony beach nearby. Not much in the way of off-site bars and restaurants close.
Our second visit to the wonderful island of Madeira. The Pestana Royal Premium Ocean and Spa Resort, is situated to the west of Funchal within the vast area of modern hotel complexes. It's too far to walk into Funchal, which is not a problem as the hotel provides a courtesy bus into the city centre, which works well. The area around the hotel is a bit bland, but everything you need is provided within the hotel. The hotel is extremely clean, the public areas are spacious and there is a large buffet style restaurant. In addition to the buffet, there are three other restaurants where you need to make a reservation. We tried two and found them quite good. By the pool there is a snack bar. The best thing about the hotel by far is the staff who are excellent. We found them polite, helpful and very friendly. At the rear of the hotel a lift takes you down, where you can access a stony beach, a walkway heads east and via a short tunnel leads to the main promenade. We're not poolside sunbathers, preferring to explore the island instead. There always seemed to be plenty of sun beds available whenever we looked. Music seemed to be play quite a bit around the pool as well. This may not be to your taste. The room (a deluxe, which I think means 'standard') was a tad small but quite comfortable. A safe, kettle, mini-fridge and strong wifi signal was most welcome. We came to have a great holiday and this hotel certainly delivered for us

Pestana Royal Madeira

Pros: The room was brilliant with lovely views over the sea. I loved the whole hotel and resort, all so clean and modern.
Cons: Yes to improve they could have more space between the tables in the restaurant. It was a bit like a school canteen.
Location: Lovely location, near to Funchal but far enough away to be out of the main tourist crowds. Lots to do. Buses go past the resort.
Loved this hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the hotel was clean and modern and bright. The bedroom was very large with two very big single beds. Lovely bathroom with loads of room (one of my bugbears is having no room in the bathrooms). All of the staff was so friendly and so helpful.

Nice enough stay but not 5* as marketed

Pros: Overall ambience was good, great staff.
Cons: In need of renovation / updating of rooms and bathrooms.
Location: location was good as near to beach - private lift from hotel to beach so you don't have to walk all the way around - shopping 10 minutes walk.
We received a complimentary upgrade, so room was good size but in need of updating, bathrooms were 'tired' looking and i wiped the surface with dettol wipe as usually do on holidays (lol) and it was 'black' with dirt so cleaniness was not great. Lobby areas were fine but toilets again in need of more attention. We had an influx of arrivals mid-week and there was a shortage of sunbeds. If anything, the friendly and service-orientated staff made the holiday, they met all requests and were very accommodating. The entertainment host (mother was from Goa) was super engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds, real credit to the team.

Excellent Staff and Vacation

My stay at Pestana Royal was Fantastic. With the assistance of Fatima at the Front Desk and Her Staff, she provided me with an excellent room. My Fiance' slept very well and I was able to enjoy the views from our balcony. The meals at the Buffet and other restaurants were delicious. The Pool Bar & Grill was staffed by several excellent Young employees. I especially enjoyed the Hamburgers. Finally the Pools were well maintained and were crystal clear. The Recreation Staff also did an excellent job providing dancing lesson, water aerobics, mini golf and water polo. Thanks to all the Staff for providing an excellent Vacation. Hotel mit allem Konfort

Pros: Das Gesamtpaket war stimmig. Wir würden jederzeit wieder das Hotel besuchen. Die große Speisenauswahl war ein besonderes Highlight.
Cons: Abendunterhaltung so gestalten, dass man sich unterhalten kann und nicht anschreien muss.
Location: Das Pestana Royal liegt im Hotelviertel von Funchal. Gute Anbindung durch den kostenfreien Shuttleservice an das Zntrum von Funchal.
Das Pestana Royal ist sehr zu empfehlen. Lage und Service sind spitze. Das Personal ist vorbildlich. Durch den kostenlosen Shuttle-Service zum Zentrum nach Funchal benötigt man kein Auto. Das Hotel liegt ruhig mit toller Aussicht auf das Meer. Die kostenlose Getränkeauswahl lässt keine Wünsche übrig. Einzigers Manko: Die abendliche Musikunterhaltung war viel zu laut. Man konnte sich mit den netten neuen bekanntschaften kaum unterhalten.
