Cool old place

Posted Jun 12, 2018
My wife and I like old hotels with some character. The El Rancho certainly has that. Staying here was fun, but ya gotta remember it’s an old hotel...with old air conditioning. A bit of a warm sleep. The bar is a bit of a disappointment. Very friendly and great tequila. I would bet, though, that when Burt Lancaster got off the train at 3PM, they met him with a cold beer. Nowadays, you can’t even buy one until after 5.

Well known classic lobby Full of the glory of yesteryears with its movie star Photos on the wall Convenient location close to The interstate Security staff car park which is outdoors but close to Main entrance of hotel Room (“Alan Ladd” room) Had a strong disinfectant / cleaning product smell but was otherwise satisfactory Nice King bed

What a fun adventure!! The hotel’s historical vibe is off the charts- old photos, murals, the interior, room names - it was really cool. If the walls could talk - who boy !! Friendly staff, great food in the restaurant. Felt safe enough gyro walk the dogs around the block at night and early morning as needed.

An historic hotel on Rte-66. It IS old, the rooms small. And yet, the rooms are comfortable, the building unique and the staff friendly. If you are 'doing' Route-66, be sure to stop; If you want a trip back in time, be sure to stop. Picturesque does not do the place justice. But, if you are looking for a mini-condo, don't bother. Leave the space for those of us who like experiencing the United States.

Tear this place down- El Rancho

Posted May 21, 2018
We were given the only pet friendly room on the first floor. Carpet was awful, beds were awful, and the toilet was so close to the shower and wall it was almost unusable. The shower with 1950's controls were almost not able to be hot/cold balanced. The water pressure was abysmal. All for $120 a night. What a rip-off.

Our room was freezing cold. 37 degrees outside but heat turned off for the season. No internet. WiFi was down. Front desk person was being trained.

An astounding and hugely impressive entrance lobby. Photos you may have seen don't do it justice. Original 1930s lift still going strong but you have to ask a member of staff to operate it for you. A who's who of hugely famous film stars are featured in photos (many of them signed) decorate the walls and plaques on doors tell you who stayed where. Plenty of parking out front and easily accessed from Interstate 40. On the downside, historic hotels come with historic amenities, such as very small bathroom, and noisy air con. Bar was also a disappointment, noise and huge TV screens. Liked the restaurant though. The hotel is right on a very well preserved part of Route 66 but sees quite a lot of traffic. Railroad tracks are parallel to the road and freight trains are constant throughout the night. However, we stayed 2 nights and it was an experience we would not have missed.

It was ok-very small. Bathroom microscopic. Lots of steps in the Hotel.
