A beautiful, small castle. Staff was very accommodating. Tea and scones served daily, as well as a champagne reception. Dinner menu was limited so we didn't eat at the restaurant. A bit far off from Galway city (one hour). But very close to Connemara sites. Clifden town center just a short walk away.

Excellent Staff and Experience

Posted Apr 13, 2017
Pros: Felt like 'coming home' each day after our explorations. Champagne reception with chats about the area and places to explore.
Location: Wild Atlantic Way, Kylemore Abbey, Connemara Park, Westport and Westport Footgolf
We stayed at Abbeyglen in a Superior Triple for 4 nights in April with our teenage daughter. It was a 'base camp' for exploring northwest Ireland. We started our day with a filling breakfast and ended in the lounge/bar discussing our day with other travelers, having a pint and singing. What a wonderful experience. The staff and owner made us and the other guests feel like we were all part of a large traveling group of friends. Our room was large, clean, with a gas fireplace and small sitting area that was wonderful for relaxing and warming up after our days of longs hikes.

Eclectic hotel in a wonderful area

Posted Feb 25, 2017
Pros: Friendliness and proximity to a wide range of coastal and hill environments. Easy walk from hotel into Clifden township and a choice of pubs.
Location: Some walking trails from Clifden, but just head for the coast and hills to find beautiful views.
The hotel has quite a history; as a 19C folly, an orphanage and now as a hotel. The staff go out of their way to engage with their guests. Some reviewers have found this a little odd, but visiting it in winter I found it close to full with Irish regulars, many well known to the staff. It is an old building so expect a few cracks and rough points, but everything was working and our room, was clean and comfortable.

Hotel staff was amazing. Really went out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again when traveling that area of Ireland.
