AmazingPosted Oct 12, 2015
We spent only one night. The service was wonderful. The grounds are simply amazing. I wish I had brought my fly rod as the river and fishery there are beautiful.

Outstanding facility. Beautiful location. Everyone was so attentive and helpful. The only downside is we couldn't stay longer.

Lovely Manor House / Castle Hotel on ConnemaraPosted Sep 7, 2015
Pros: Staff was great, really felt like a "castle" visit.
Cons: The road from the highway is narrow so be careful (nothing unusual for Ireland, but a few blind turns.) They should put up mirrors in the blind spots
Location: Hiking at Connemara National Park and elsewhere, visit Kylemore Abbey, drive sky drive, walk around Clifden, fishing, day trip to Aran Islands
The hotel is located right on a river near Clifden in the heart of the Connemara Peninsula. It's about an hour west of Galway. The rooms were very well maintained - we had sleeper beds for the kids that were very comfortable. The room and bath were both quite large. Most guests while we were there were adults; we were traveling with young children (8 and 6) and they were treated fantastically. We had a lovely dinner - great selection of region specific food (e.g. wild rabbit, oysters, scallops, lamb, etc.) While there was no formal kids menu they were very accommodating in providing the kids with appropriate dinner (but thankfully NOT chicken fingers!!!). The hotel clearly specializes in fishing in the river for those that are interested. Note that many of the rooms aren't in the original castle building but are in the large addition (fully connected to the main building).

Wonderful location and beautifully appointed hotel. I especially liked the many sitting rooms that offered different spaces to read and talk. Diner was very good as well.

WORST STAY EVER!! Bummer Birthday Bust!Posted Aug 9, 2015
Pros: The grounds and trails
Cons: The guest relations at the front desk and room 24 for sure! New soft NON SHREDDED TOWELS would be nice too!
WORST STAY on our 9 day trip to Ireland, the photos on the website are misleading. Our room had a flood leaking from the bathroom and they refused to move us to another room, dirty floor was never vacuumed in between beds EVER! The towels were like thin shredding sandpaper. Not what we anticipated from a castle stay that cost 3x of our other locations, that were delightful B&B's. At about midnight when we were getting to sleep when the electrical outlet by the flooded floor made a loud POP and lit up the room. The hot water faucet handle on the right sink comes off in your hand. DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 24 in the lower level! Horseback riding was 45 euros when we signed up, upon check out they tried to charge us 80 euros per person, fortunately we hadn't gone yet so we cancelled the ride. They never offered to compensate us in any way for our horrible room. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Oh I asked for a 2 double bed room and they put my adult son on a rollaway and my daughter and I on twin beds...SERIOUSLY?!!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the castle. Lovely accommodations, beautiful countryside, excellent staff, and delicious food. What more can you ask for?
