Disappointing

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: everything, is not at par with the price is charged.
Location: you have to drive at-least 30 min to Humboldt .
So many stairs to go in the hotel no elevator so you need help for luggage and pay the hefty tip, internet free does not work and when you ask the staff said yes we know it does not work so you have to pay $9.95 per day for premium wi fi. rooms are so small and no amenities at all in the room, bathroom light you can see nothing. The price you pay you get nothing at all. total rip off. Yes location is near the River.

Benbow

This was our third stay. The hotel is undergoing major renovation. Due to this the restrooms were located on the second floor and since there's no elevator not easily accessible. We will not return until the renovations are completed

Unique historic inn

Posted Jun 26, 2017
Location: Redwood Highway. Ocean shore.
What a wonderful find during a recent road trip. Harkens back to another time with stunning architecture, layout and restaurant overlooking a river valley. Very responsive staff. I'd give the hotel condition a 5 I'm sure once the current renovation is finished. It's didn't impact our stay in any way, but we arrived after working hours and left by 9am so don't know what it would be like during the day.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to give us such uplifting comments! Our team works very hard to provide a great experience to our guests and it's always great to hear that that hard work is noticed. I'm glad to hear that the construction was not an intrusion on your stay and we can't wait to see the final product (we should be done by mid fall this year!). I hope we can welcome you back soon!

Love the ambiance of the hotel...vintage 1020's with great perks like afternoon tea and scones, happy hour and great restaurant!

Pros: Unique
Cons: Nothing
Great to stay in a 'one off' hotel. So many hotels make you feel that you could be anywhere, every room, every lobby, every restaurant is identical, you could be anywhere in the world. It's so refreshing to stay somewhere unique. Yes, there's a lot of building work going on, but unless you're going to lie in bed all day......and who does that on vacation...... it really isn't a problem. Wonderful staff.....so friendly and welcoming. Great touch of tea and scones in the afternoon. Reasonably priced bar and bar snacks, so popular it was filled with locals as well as residents. Rooms are quite small, we had a roll out bed for daughter which made the room very snug. No TV which was quite a refreshing change, and the sherry was a lovely touch. Be aware this an old hotel so the floorboards creak....a lot! Would love to return in better weather to sit on the terrace and paddle at the private beach.

Great Historic Hotel

We love the Benbow Hotel! It's a little noisy at the moment due to the new construction, but a beautiful place nestled in the redwoods.

Thank you for staying with us and leaving your feedback! It is true that things are noisier than we would like, but the work will all be worth it. We look forward to welcoming you back when all of our work is done!

Nice place to stay by the Redwoods

Posted Mar 28, 2017
The hotel itself was fine, although it was under construction when we arrived, we weren't even sure if it was open to the public. When we did get to our room, we were not disturbed by the construction so that was a plus. The hotel is extremely dated. My husband and I found it extremely inconvenient that the tv was on a wall that did not face the bed. The town that the hotel is in has no entertainment to offer other than a couple down home restaurants; it was fine for our one night stay when visiting the Avenue of the Giants Redwood park but anything longer would have been too much.

Thank you for being our guest and for your feedback. The construction will be ongoing throughout the summer of this year, but at this point we have reopened our dining room and bar for service (which was not available at the time that you stayed with us). Our rooms should have a TV mounted on an articulating arm that can adjust to the direction you choose. If you would be able to let us know the room number you stayed in, I would like to check and make sure this is functioning (and fix if it is not). I hope we can welcome you back in the near future once we have everything complete with our improvements!

A hike back in time, perfect family getaway

Posted Dec 31, 2016 on Hotels
Family of four (college & high school aged kids) up for a post Christmas getaway to the Redwoods. Took some amazing long hikes in Humbolt Redwoods State Parks and Redwood National park, among others. Peaceful, quiet, nice period feel.

No hot water and snarky desk clerk

Posted Nov 9, 2016 on Hotels
Arrived to find that the hotel was undergoing extensive modification. First room we were given did not have a TV. After some discussion with the desk clerk we were grudgingly moved to a room with a TV. In the morning we discovered that there wasn't hot water available in our room. Our complaint regarding the lack of hot water was greeted with a shrug.

I am sorry you were not aware of the lack of TV. I am working with Expedia to get some specific text to clarify this to guests. I am most sorry that your concerns about the hot water were not met with an adequate response. I hope we can welcome you back again in the future once construction is complete.
