Hotel in a friendly village.

Posted Dec 14, 2016
Pros: The people are friendly.
Cons: All the guest facilities.
Good food and the catering staff very attentive. The hotel needs updating. The bar area is being refurbished but the rest of the hotel would benefit from decorating. The bedroom was basic but clean but the mattress definitely needed replacing. It was cold and damp outside and inside - the heating just wasn't turned on and single glazed windows do not retain the heat.

Needs cleaning

Posted Jul 20, 2016
We stayed at the bank of fleet hotel whilst attending a wedding in the area. It is in a good central location with parking on the street. We checked in and had to rush to get ready for the wedding so we had no time to complain about the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. It hits you as soon as you walk into the room-cheap tired looking furniture and curtains that are partly hanging off. A tv with wires hanging down. Kettle with no plug nearby. Black mould covering the whole bathroom ceiling and smelt of damp. Bath had dirt marks. Only half a toilet roll by the toilet. On a plus The staff were nice and friendly. We returned after midnight and the bar was open which was great for us to get water. Bed creaked when sat on. Sheets were clean. It was quiet in the room. Next morning - shower was good pressure and eventually hot. You have to let it run hot and cold for at least 5 mins then it stays hot. It would have be nice to be warned about this as I experienced it whilst in the shower. The breakfast was nice and there was a good choice. Coffee was cheap instant which was disappointing when a real coffee maker was in view but not offered. Again staff at breakfast and check out were nice and friendly. overall not worth £68 the money we paid but with little choice in the area it's seems competition is low.

Great location for dog walking

Posted May 12, 2015
First impression was mixed as room key just left on reception desk, no-one to be seen!! Room was small but neat & tidy. Things picked up in the morning when a friendly lass moved us into a larger room - space for us & 2 dogs. Breakfast was good. Overall the building is in need of some TLC, & perhaps understaffed but we felt welcomed & at home & would recommend it esp if you have a dog! It would also be helpful if address was given as Gatehouse if Fleet not Castle Douglas as on Expedia info!
