Quiet Retreat Perfect for a Summer Getaway Near Ottawa

Waterfront cottage in Val-des-Monts with kitchen
Tranquil cottage nestled in trees on a small clean spring filled lake with no motorboats. An oasis to escape from the city and have peace and tranquility. It's 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa on Lake McGlashan in Val Des Monts. Perfectly sized for two families vacationing together!

It has 3 bedrooms and a pull out couch which can sleep 4 adults and 4 children comfortably. The bedrooms are on the lower level, so stay cooler during the hot summer days. There are also two full bathrooms, both with showers and a bath. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, cooktop stove, new refrigerator and a wood stove used for heating. The dining room has a long pine table for family meals which seats 8 and another large table in the kitchen seats 6. There is also a full sized new washer and dryer.

A perfect place to unplug with plenty of DVDs, CDs and board games. There is a portable Bose sound player to play music from your smart phone. Perfect for reading with a morning coffee, the cottage has a screened in porch and 2 lake-facing balconies.

The 1 acre lot is private with a large deck for hanging out and swimming. The deck gets sun from early morning until around 5pm, but you can find some shady spots to relax as well. There is also a small fire pit. Two kayaks are available – one single and one double both of which are very stable to tour the lake. Minutes away are the Nakkertok trails, perfect for a hike through the woods.

For maximum privacy, the cottage is nestled in the forest, 40 steps down from the parking lot and another 40 steps to the lake. Though private, this feature means it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues or very young children.

5/5 Excellent

Beautiful cottage close to Ottawa with an exceptional view
We arrived in the afternoon and immediately fell in love with it. It's turnkey - you need nothing but food and, due to covid, linen. You will love tge kitchen where you are literally in the treetops with the birds. The three bedrooms can accomodate at least 8 without using pullouts. If it rains there are endless movies, games and music to keep you busy. Theres good shopping for food at the marché about 5 minutes away and, even closer, is Maison Malda - a brasserie - currently operating as a gourmet sandwich and prepared food takeouts. Their deserrs are to die for and the croisants are worth an early morning visit. Buy bird seed at the Marché and fill the humminbird feeder - instructions provided. Your landlord - Benn - leans over backwards to meet your every need. We spent two weeks there in the fall and were sad to leave.

5/5 Excellent

Beautiful spot, cozy place
Just spent a week at this lovely cottage. It was sweltering outside and we were grateful for the lake! The cottage is well-stocked - board games and books galore, and a great CD collection! No wifi made unplugging easy, although there was cell coverage if you needed to create your own hotspot. The owners clearly do a lot of cooking (as do we) as they had everything a good cook needs, including sharp knives (something not all places have on hand) and a good BBQ. We spent most days down on the dock and found the lake clean and refreshing. Don't overlook the screened-in porch - it is the coolest place on a hot sunny afternoon and a wonderful place to write or get some work done. This is truly a family cottage on a family oriented, small, motorboat-free lake. It's a great spot for open-water swimming, if that's your thing, or stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. They weren't kidding about the stairs so if you have mobility issues or young children, you'll want to keep searching. But if you're in good shape and don't mind a climb, this place is truly a gem. Benn, the property manager, is attentive and easy to work with.
