Huge apartment with local flavor

This is not a US chain hotel. No bold carpets, no jacuzzi tub, no gleaming elevators, no fancy toiletries. Instead you get a huge room, friendly staff, good breakfast, and good location. No view, but plenty to make up for it.
The hotel appears to be 7 stories of converted apartments -- plain but practical. My room had a separate bedroom (with 2 twin beds pushed together) and living room (2 more twins, separated) with an actual, though tiny, kitchen -- perfectly adequate for storing a few groceries or leftovers, perhaps even cooking a light meal. Add in a few pieces of furniture, coffee maker, a TV in both rooms, adequate and free wireless internet. The location is walkable to the old town and the lake, and is less than a block from a tram stop.
Breakfast was quite nice, and included in my rate. Boiled eggs, deli meats, pastries, bread, cheese, yogurt, granola, fruit, juices. Coffee or your favorite variety thereof prepared fresh by the friendly staff member when you sit down.
Staff were forgiving of my total lack of French, happy to loan a plug converter and replace a forgotten toothbrush, and to give directions to local attractions, at any time of day or night. They provided maps of the city and of the train routes, and a free train pass for the duration of my stay. I was traveling on business but would have enjoyed staying here for leisure so I could take better advantage of the kitchenette and location. Would definitely stay again.
