Not a Bed and Breakfast

Posted Aug 1, 2013 on Hotels
This property was listed in Hotels.com as a Bed and Breakfast. It was just a room for rent in a house in a residential neighborhood, but it is priced like a traditional B & B. There is no meal service. There are toasters and coffee pots available but there is no staff to even make coffee. There were opened loaves of bread by the toasters but it is not clear if these belong to other guests or are for common use by all guests. The same applies to the food in the refrigerator. The common rooms are nice but in the summer are not usable because there is no air conditioning in those rooms and they become uncomfortably warm. Because there is no staff on the premises, check-in at 4:00 pm was a guessing game. Some of the guests seem to be regulars and know the routine, if you have never been there before the entire experience is quite frustrating. This could be a very nice property but the owners do not seem to want to be "hands on" Inn Keepers or simply do not know how to be good Inn Keepers. I would not recommend the property if you are going there for the first time or if you want a traditional Bed and Breakfast. It was not what I was expecting.

Good location and a pleasant stay

Posted Jun 9, 2009 on Hotels
The Julietta House is convenient to the Gloucester waterfront and the downtown area. The room was small, but comfortable. Of all things, a spare roll of toilet paper was not to be found (in the room, linen closet, or elsewhere) but, overall, we liked the place. The morning coffee/tea setup was convenient, and a good collection of area maps was available.

Safety issues and breakfast

Posted Jun 13, 2008
We were very concerned about the check in procedure. There is no one to check you in so the key to lock the house was left in an envelope in a basket. Then when we returned at night the envelopes with entry keys were left on the porch for late check-ins so that any passerby could enter the house. AS far as the breakfast was concerned we were lead to believe there would be breakfast food available for us to fix ourselves included in room charge, but when we arrived, there was a sign stating that cookies and tea were free but there was a charge for the very few available items. Considering the location and charge for the room we were very disappointed that there was not at least a continental breakfast offered. I could not recommend this B&B.

Nice Place to Stay

Posted May 7, 2008 on Hotels
We were looking for a nice weekend away in Gloucester and the Julietta House provided use with exactly that. Room was clean and the house is really nice. Location is right around the corner from the main shopping area and a short walk down to the Fisherman's memorial. Definately would stay there again. Three things to be aware of. Its a bed and breakfast so water pressure in the shower can sometimes be an issue. Beds are a little hard. Also they really need to come up with a better security policy on rooms and for the building itself. We felt perfectly safe and - as I said - would stay there again but they need to put key locks on the bedroom doors. Definately recommend if you're looking for a nice quiet trip to Gloucester.
