Old working pub

Posted Dec 11, 2017
The rooms were a bit dated but comfortable. The hotel does kareoke and a live band Friday and Saturday so could be noisy. But it is a beautiful, historic old building in the pedestrian zone right in the heart of Gloucester. So don't expect the Ritz. Parking is in the local NCP so train may be better. But perfect for a shopping/pub weekend break.

Friendly, helpful staff and gorgeous old building

Posted Nov 25, 2017
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, character of hotel and location.
Cons: It is a litte run down as is often the case with these lovely hotels so could do with a spruce up of basics like carpet and light fittings.
Location: Very central location, close to the Quays, shops and restaurant.
All staff were helpful and friendly. The building is gorgeous and full of character. Comfy bed and reasonable facilities for the price, considering its central position.

Old but central

Posted Oct 13, 2017
Pros: It's character and decor plus its central location.
Cons: Offer maps. Plus if anyone needs a power converter (UK to north America), the Boots store has it for 6£.
Location: Hotel is just off the cross intersection of N/S/W/Eastgate so very central. The cathedral is close but the outside yard is under construction.
Once you know where it is, it is easy to get to from the bus or train stations. There was a lot of construction near the station. The hotel can only be accessed by walking because that tourist area is for pedestrian traffic only. The hotel is very old and has a lot of character. The floors, doors and stairs are very unique and interesting. The room is comfortable and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. The carpets are dirty though. The complimentary breakfast is fine and freshly cooked. If you have a room facing the main street, it may be noisy late at night when the bar people walk by.

Lovely quaint hotel with plenty of character

Posted Sep 20, 2017
Lovely hotel excellent location in the town centre. No on site parking but car park behind hotel was so cheap only cost us £4. My only criticism was that the smoking area was in a central area which meant we were unable to keep our bedroom window open. This may seem minor to some but to me was quite major .

Not for the faint of heart (the place is *old* and has no lift, plus the stairs are a bit tricky and the pigeons loves it') but we were happy with our stay here. The location is fantastic (close to train station, Gloucester Cathedral, and a short walk to waterways museum and new mall, in addition to lots of food and shopping nearby.) Our room was tilty and ancient (isn't that why you'd stay here?) but surprisingly comfortable, with updated bathroom, tea fixings, and (super loud) evening entertainment from the bar below. We took it in stride, and enjoyed a unique night in an historic site.
