The hotel room and corridors are pretty dated and need serious revamping to bring to modern standards. Poor lighting in the room means very poor ambience. The bath tub was stained and water leaks when taking shower. The bathroom is awful and my girl avoided using for 2 days

Cons: Some signs of wear and tear in the bedroom and the room could benefit from a thorough maintenance programme
Location: The Christmas market in the cloisters of Gloucester cathedral was excellent. It was a pleasure to explore the cathedral itself.
Really good food. Reception staff were cheerful, pleasant and helpful

Stay away

Stay away from this place. The lobby and some public areas may be half decent. But the rooms are a different story. They are incredibly old and lack proper cleanliness. We had all sorts of bugs (including bees) inside the room. The staff is rude and unwelcoming. they need to stop being a four star and be reduced to a two. they hide behind their big hotel name, but don't live up to it

Good hotel but no AC in our room.

Pros: The surrounding, staff, breakfast.
Cons: Lift and AC in all rooms.
it is in a good location. I liked the surrounding. Had breakfast one day and it was good. We were given a room in the 4th floor. With an infant to carry, it is hard work climbing up and down. No lifts in this hotel. First night we were given the worst room (in attic) in the hotel. No Air condition. Cant open the windows as there were lot of dead flies outside of the window. Next day we moved a different room in the same floor with AC. This room was nice and comfortable. Staff were friendly.

Location: As we had business in Cheltenham on the first day and Gloucester the next day, we didn't have much time to use any facilities.
Friendly staff, very nice food, nice surroundings with a very welcome greeting when we arrived, from the ducks. Enjoyable stay.

Pleasantly surprised

The best aspect of this hotel are the great people who work there, very willing and nothing is too much trouble. It's a characterful old country mansion with all public areas nicely refurbished and the rooms being worked on - but no inconvenience caused. Dogs are allowed which makes a pleasant change for a chain. We were surprised how busy the hotel was.

Attended a wedding and stayed the night at this venue, amasing building pretty grounds, lovely room and wonderful hospitality. The staff could not do enough. Even got to see a couple of deer from my bedroom window the following morning. The only down side of the whole experiance was that it was extreamly hot and only a fan and two windows that opened 6 inches, but old buildings like this it was a tiny minus in the grand scale of things.
