Room was not for certain ready when we arrived AFTER checkin time. Lady behind me in line had the same issue. Desk Clerk had trouble getting hold of housekeeping to see if they were ready. Younger guy in front of us got a room right away. We had to wait. My worst checkin experience at a Holiday Inn express.

Property itself was fine, if tired. A car alarm was going off all night and we had a room to the front, so this disrupted our sleep. There are limited dining options in town - we went for the pizza place and unfortunately it was not great.

This property has been under some condition of renovation for a couple of years. We love Holiday Inn Express, but this location seems to be a little lacking. They only had decaf coffee in the rooms

A good choice for us
Very comfortable room, with a beautiful view of the sunrise. The place was very clean, but our room could use some TLC. The carpet was dirty as it’s old, the bathroom was spotless but had wall damage and the shower head was stuck. The breakfast was hot and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We were surprised to fund a sofa in the room. However, there was no closets. There was nowhere to hang your clothes. Ither than that, it was a great stay.

A good stay despite the renovation
Although I saw some complaints about the renovation prior to our stay, it was not really an issue at all for any of us. There were clear signs all around the hotel that they are undergoing renovation, but there was no indication of that on the Hotels.com web site when I made the reservations. The hotel was fairly full because of the balloon festival in Albuquerque and the ring of fire eclipse, but there were no issues with noise from renovation work or the other guests. The hallways were obviously being worked on (don't know when!), but the room seemed pretty "normal" to us, was clean, and the bed was comfortable. In other words, it was (almost) as good as a normal stay at a HI Express & Suites, which is a go-to chain for us.

Over all
Staff were friendly. No vent in the bathroom. Air conditioning vent was filthy due to both of these conditions. Room had musky unfresh odor. Breakfast was very good. The biscuit and gravy was excellent . Many options better than continental breakfast staff assigned kept eating area clean and well stocked.
