Sad Property, Lovely Staff

Posted May 17, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: The hallways need to be cleaned and the room needs TLC
Location: Queen Street Station and walking all over Glasgow City Centre. Hop On, Hop Off bus parks just outside the hotel.
I chose this hotel for its rating and for its proximity to Queen Station as I planned a trip on Scotrail to Mallaig. When I arrived at the hotel it was not at all clear that there was a handicapped entrance---no sign, etc. So I dragged my luggage up the stairs. The hotel employees are lovely. I enjoyed my interactions with everyone, from the front desk staff to the waitstaff. These folks are working hard and shine on behalf of their property. However, the hotel itself is greatly disappointing. The lobby furniture appears to have been from a jumble sale---very odd. When I got off the elevator on my floor, though, I got quite the surprise. I was on the 4th floor and the walls in the hallway are absolutely filthy. There has been no attempt to clean them. All along the hallway, there is more and more dirt on the walls, the door frames, etc. I was truly shocked. It is dimly lit, but even when I shined my phone light on them I could see this space has had zero TLC. My room was spacious and had character. The staff had tried to clean it but the devil was in the details. The furniture is so worn and chipped and marked. Everything is tired. I could tell that someone had really tried to make the place look nice, but it came down to someone's idea of class versus money to spend. A lovely chandelier in the room had cost-saving bulbs that were not even "flame" looking bulbs. They were the spirally, ugly bulbs that are usually hidden away underneath lamp shades. I hope they update it

Awful heating and cooling

Posted May 16, 2017
The air conditioner was not working making the room very hot. The heater was working which made it even worse because it wouldn't shut off.

Good location, decent price.

Posted May 15, 2017
Pros: Location, restaurant.
Cons: Better sound proofing for rooms facing train station.
Check in was quick and painless, which was good as we'd been soaked in the rain (I'm from Glasgow anyway so used to it). Room was ok, maybe not quite what I'd expect for the price but it was fine. Our room looked onto the entrance of Queen St train station, which was a nuisance in the morning as the tannoy from the station was audible from the room. If staying here again I'd be making sure our room faced onto George Square instead. Bed was comfortable, bathroom nice. Had breakfast in the brasserie looking onto George Square which was really lovely, the sun was out by then too. The breakfast was very good and staff were really helpful. I'd highly recommend this hotel for location for any tourists as you're in the heart of Glasgow city centre, and as you're next to the train station it's quick getting to Edinburgh too. You're a short walk to Merchant City with many nice restaurants and bars, shopping on Argyle St and Buchanan St, and close to a number of subway stops if you want to venture to the West End (well worth doing).

Location: Bank in the centre of Glasgow and next to the railways station which was ideal.
The room was more like a prison cell than a room in that the only window had frosted glass in it apart from at the top so you had to look up to see a patch of sky - just like a prison cell. The room was spacious though and otherwise perfectly satisfactory and as I was only there overnight I never made it an issue.

Thank you for your feedback. I am so sorry to read your comments about the window in your room. Some of our windows are frosted over for guest privacy, depending on where they overlook. I am glad you found the room spacious though and hope to welcome you back in the future.

Fantastic location

Posted May 14, 2017
Pros: Proximity to shops, restaurants etc - perfect for a mini break. Staff are always welcoming & helpful.
Cons: General décor of bedrooms - perfectly comfortable and clean but a little tired in places. Could do with a lick of paint in places.
Location: Ideally located on a busy square and within a few minutes walk of all main restaurants, shops, cinema, rail station etc.
Have returned to this hotel a few times now mainly because of its fantastic location right on George Square - within easy walking distance of the Central train station, the main shopping centre, restaurants, cafés and cinema. Without exception the staff are always pleasant, friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to help. The rooms overlooking the square offer great views but can be a little noisy at night due to city life outside. Some of the rooms could also benefit from a lick of paint - the window of our room was also very difficult to open, but overall the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and spotlessly clean.
