Arrived late due to flight delays, but greeted by friendly staff and had a glass of wine in their bar before heading to bed. Only had one meal here, but it was very good (fish and chips). Close walking distance to ocean terminal (heading out on Hurtigruten cruise), beautiful esplanade, historic sights, and dining.

A nice building but with limited facilities and smallish rooms. Very busy with parties and limited public areas crowded.

Room was clean and comfortable, hotel was nice and cozy. Only complaint: Made a reservation for the restaurant and had to pay £5 deposit, not sure why as we were told to sit anywhere and the £5 didn’t get taken off our bill.

Check in quick and easy. Rooms good for what we needed. Only fault was the shower area was mouldy. A drop of bleach on the motley areas would have rectified that. Could not hear the extractor fan - not sure if it was adequate. Restaurant was fabulous, the food was lovely.

A bit tired looking and firm beds. Awful breakfast, all over cooked buffet with joke eggs (knife bounced off when tried to cut). Convenient location and about the best hotel in town sadly.

Decor throughout was attractive & in keeping with age of hotel. Room was spacious & comfortable. Staff were attentive & polite. Breakfast was very good & dinner was excellent. Parking spaces not really adequate for occupancy of hotel.

Rooms are dated. Mattress and pillows very uncomfortable and items, such as the tv remote and hallway light, did not work. The restaurant was very nice and a relaxing way to spend an evening.

I’ve stayed here frequently in the past but it’s gone down hill since our last visit. The air conditioning didn’t work so the room was uncomfortably warm but there wasn’t even a glass to use to have a drink of water. Furnishings in the room were broken or worn and there was mould in the shower. Initially we couldn’t get through the door as a group of wedding guests were smoking in front of it and one of them was asleep on in the stairs inside. Staff were trying really hard but this was not a great experience.

The good: Nice quaint location in a historical building. I loved the ambience and there is a story board on the way down to the downstairs bar. Staff is very friendly. The room was very spacious. it looks like its the place to have wedding receptions in town because I experienced one... so much so that I was invited in. The bad: Its time for a refresh... there are signs of 'tiredness' all over the hotel. Bathroom had a cracked and uplifted tile by the door, the light over the mirror didn't work & was exposed. Threadbare carpet in places. The mattress was horrible and needs to be replaced... I didn't sleep well until I yanked the mattress to the floor. There is no air con, so I had to open the windows which worked fine, however, the challenge is that room 7 is directly above the entrance and the street, so you have traffic noise all night long AND its right above the smokers, so you get that wonderful aroma wafting in AND of course those folks often have their conversations at all hours of the night... you might even hear some very passionate and loud arguments at 1:30.

A beautiful old traditional hotel, with a lovely atmosphere. Situated in a nice part of town, close to the amazing Lyle hill, seaside towns and the views of Argyll

A well established hotel with some historical features. The reception and stairwell areas are eye catching. Spacious bedroom with all basic facilities. Really comfortable bed. Bathroom a little dated. Friendly staff. Plenty of street parking. 15 minute walk to town centre and river.

The wifi was very poor The shower room lighting is not bright enough for shaving There should be a tray in shower room for shampoo etc Other than above we enjoyed a great stay.

Genuine and comfortable regional hotel with friendly staff. Could do better at everything but is good overall. Comfy bed, great shower, good housekeeping team, lovely but slightly neglected grand old building in the old and scenic part of town.

This was an unexpected stay for us as we missed boarding our ship in Southampton and ended up flying into Glasgow then taking a limo ride to Greenock. We were pleased to get the last minute reservation and the staff did everything to make our one night stay a pleasure.
