Pub with rooms handy for the Trossachs

Posted Jun 30, 2016
Pros: Staff, food and location.
Cons: Some tidying up and maintenance work.
Location: In the heart of the Trossachs with easy access to this stunning part of Scotland.
Nice pub in small attractive village. Has a few rooms. Stayed here a couple of years ago and a bit run down in the meantime. But comfortable. Staff are very efficient and pleasant. Pub food is good quality and reasonably priced. It is a good pub with accommodation in a beautiful area.

Simply a room in a pub, not much more

Posted Jun 5, 2016
Pros: Not a lot.
Cons: Sound proof the floor of rooms 6 & 7, improve the food, modernise the whole place.
Location: Reasonable journeys to nearby towns such as Callander and about 45 mins from Aberfoyle.
The Inn itself is little more than a pub with rooms above it. Sadly, 2 of the 7 rooms (6 & 7 - I stayed in 6) are directly above the bar so if you're looking for a quiet village out of the way, this isn't really it. There's little to nothing in Strathyre and I booked this place as I couldn't find an available short notice B&B in nearby Callandar, though it's a short car journey to Callandar itself. The room was basic and old fashioned including the CRT portable TV and radio alarm clock akin to items Bruce Forsyth would've offered as prized in the Generation Game. Breakfast wasn't up to much, I had very watery poached eggs and my wife had scrambled eggs with enough butter to cause a coronary. On the upside it was clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable though it did take until 00:30 for music bleeding up from the bar to die down and offer any quiet.

Stephen was incredibly kind and hospitable. The food and pub at the inn were great -- locals hanging out playing darts and pool were very friendly. Really enjoyed our stopover in this small community.

not the worst experience

Posted Aug 19, 2015
This was the only room available for a hundred miles. No tv, the wifi didn't work in our room, and the bathroom was across a public hall from the bedroom. Room was comfy and clean tho and the breakfast was good. Hotel staff was super-friendly and if you don't mind roughing it this is a nice hotel.

Nice room in tatty pub.

Posted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: The room and the coffee at breakfast
Cons: Hair dryers in room. Better pillows
Location: Good short walks just over the road. 2mile walk to the Mhor 84 up the road which was lovely.
Lovely room with comfy mattress but hard pillows. Good shower. No hair dryer in room. Tatty pub and breakfast room. Breakfast was ok, good portion size.
