Very nice hotel with great on-site entertainment.Posted Oct 4, 2015
Had a great time! The food was delicious and the staff was very professional and courteous. My only recommendation would be to have better music at the discotheque across the street. We went there three nights in a row at various times during the late evening hours and no one was on the dance floor. It's very sad considering that the facility itself is very nice but they may want to consider a different DJ or updating their music.

Cons: Elevators to have some fresh air, mattresses softer
Location: Too far from the big cities
Lack of power outlets in the bedroom, mattress too firm, no ice machine on the different floor

Wonderful Place for a Honeymoon!Posted Sep 20, 2015
A friend of mine stayed at a Riu resort in Dominican Republic and gushed so much about it I almost went there for my honeymoon. But I always wanted to go to Costa Rica so when I saw there was a Riu there I went ahead and booked it. I choose the Guanacaste one over the palace because the room looked more romantic with its decor and colors. The palace just seemed to white, bright and modern. I chose the Suite with a Jacuzzi cause hey its my honeymoon! I was very nervous cause I always hear the stories that its never what the site looks like but let me say when I went in my room it looked just like the pictures on the website. It was beautiful and ocean view. There was an upstairs balcony with an outside jacuzzi. There was also a jacuzzi inside the room. The room was just huge! Now there was one thing that did bother me which is everyday we went to the beach we would get swarmed with someone selling this or come do our tour or would you like a massage. Now don't get me wrong I understand that's there job and there way of making money but what annoyed me the most was they kept coming back and asking. I just could not relax without being bothered every 15 minutes. My last 3 days there I would just hang at the pool. We did take the water taxi over to Coco Beach for shopping and eating. Oh make sure you bring suntan lotion! The lotion there is 39$. Also if you eat outside be careful there are some brave birds that hang around

Great property, however, staff was disappointing.Posted Sep 15, 2015
Pros: The property and the overall cleanliness and the nightly shows.
Cons: Service, WIFI accessibility from rooms, soft towels. Have an adults section, have a larger kid pool area.
Location: Airport is 45 minutes away, traveled 1 + hours to excursions Arenal and Vandara.
Staff isn't personable and I felt like they had the "next" mentality, they didn't go above or beyond and seemed not interested in providing excellent service.

Lovely hotel in the mountains!Posted Sep 8, 2015
Pros: The location was beautiful and the rooms were spacious and clean. The grounds were well maintained and clean. The buffet was good
Cons: The staff at the desk were not very helpful and the gentleman in charge of restaurant reservations was very rude. We didn't get a reservation
Location: We took the Palo Verde excursion and we also went to Nicaragua and Granada BEAUTIFUL
WE enjoyed our stay, it was very relaxing! The pools were beautiful, rooms comfortable and clean and the food was good. The staff does not speak much english and you had to pay for WIFI. The evening shows were very good and the activties by the pool were fun

Beach on Hotel was not pretty.Posted Sep 8, 2015
Pros: The evening shows and entertainment staff were friendly.
Cons: The hotel needs A/C in their elevators. Going up an elevator in 99 degree weather is brutal!
Location: Volcano, Canopy, Monkey sighting, zipline, hot spring, horseback riding. Enough for 5 days.
We arrived Fri. 8/28 at 4:00pm. Beach on the back of hotel was ugly compared to other beaches around. The room smelled a bit like humidity but we understood being its in the rainforest. We returned to the room at 9:00pm, showered & got the kids ready for bed. As we pulled the covers, the white sheets were filthy dirty! The sheets & pillow cases had not been changed. I wish I was able to post the photos of the sheets & pillow cases. The sheets had yellow spotty stains on it while the pillow cases were a brownish yellow from the sweat of the previous vacationers. The drinking glasses in the bathroom had a white residue on them and were not washed. The ice bucket had a green slime in it. The bathtub mat was filled with mold. We were highly upset and had the senior supervisor Francisco come up to the room. We had to wait 2 1/2 hours for someone to come up and clean the entire room while we sat there with our kids waiting. We went to bed that night at 12:30 while waiting for the room to be cleaned. We traveled 8 hours to get to Costa Rica with our kids and to arrive to a hotel room that had dirty linen is totally unacceptable. The elevators do not have air conditioning and when you are coming up from 90 degree weather, that ride on the elevator is brutal. They don't have much activities for families with smaller children. The evening shows were good and the entertainment staff were friendly. However, I was not satisfied with the cleaning staff. Definitely not going back.

About hotel Riu guanacastePosted Sep 7, 2015
While during the day it was fun there was not much to do at night. The all inclusive food was okay, the desserts so so. The staff was great. The room definitely needs improvements; starting from the little flat screen tv, the towels in the bathroom are like sand paper, each time the room was clean they used too much Clorox and that make the room smell, plus it was not rinse well as I went to rinse a bathing suit in the the shower and it got discolored on one side from the Clorox left in the shower. The beach definitely needs an improvement, is very rocky and the sand is muddy and brown. Wish the pool was open late but unfortunately is not. The restaurants were okay except for the Italian one. I do recommend the steak dinner, but only if is not too humid out out as it is all fresco.
