Nightmare in Guangzhou

Cons: Customer service and willingness to accept internationally recognized financial instruments (ie. credit cards and bank cards)
Booked the room based on proximity to the airport and reviews on Expedia and TripAdvisor. When we arrived at the front desk, they were unable to process any of the three credit cards that we had. Said all three were rejected by the system, which came as a shock to us given that we had just spent five weeks travelling around Vietnam and Cambodia. Used our credit cards in all parts of both countries for restaurants and hotels without any problems. Given the large size of the H.j. Grand Hotel it was very surprising and extremely disappointing that none of our cards would work and could be accepted!!! The ATM in the hotel lobby also only accepted local bank cards. Ended up walking with one of the hotel managers for 45 minutes to a local bank ATM to withdraw sufficient funds to pay for the room + deposit. Front desk staff and management were not very understanding or accommodating. Would not recommend you stay at this facility unless you carry cash and are a resident of the country.
