The location of the property was great, the back yard overlooking the ocean was stunning. We saw whales several mornings. The facility was beautiful but could use some TLC. When we contacted staff they returned our calls promptly, answered all questions, and were quick to fulfill our requests. Maid staff could do a better job of cleaning. Sometimes felt like the floors had not been vacuumed or mopped on their visits.

The internet was often unavailable and cell phone service was rare. No staff on property. So it was necessary to drive miles from the hotel in order to call staff. The same was needed to get into the room the first night. To get the room serviced, you had to leave a card hanging on the door asking. But we weren't told, so didn't get clean towels for days, and only after called when away from room. Plus the card was visible from street, so letting the whole world know your room was unoccupied and available to break into. They told us to reset the router for internet. Said we could use kitchen in main house, but signs all over it said keep out.

Good and not so good.
It was the kind of experience like Dickens wrote, "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." It truly is an amazingly beautiful property. Located on a picture post card property on the sea. The room was spacious and clean. However, there were a number of minor, but annoying nuisances. First was the check in. There was none. At least not the traditional check in we are used to. We arrived just before sunset. There was no one there. No staff, no guests, locked doors. As I walked around the building I went through several cobwebs on the grounds. It truly looked abandoned. Finally read the note on the front door. Apparently we had been sent a text giving us the pass code. Our phone was not working. When we went for help we found out the reception was poor in the area. A friendly local made the call and we got our code. A couple of other items. The bed was on a double drawer which meant my 5' 2" wife needed the chair to climb into bed. The TV magically changed channels on its own. Other than that, as I said, it is a beautiful property.

This property was so beautiful and peaceful and we enjoyed our stay. The only notes we had was that there is no cellular service which is understandable, but the wifi signal was extremely weak which was hard to use our phones for business and pleasure. Also it does get hot and humid and I wish our room had an air conditioner. Other than that I would definitely come back and recommend it.

Air conditioner was undersized, but sounded like a jet engine. They said to phone them with issues: but no phone in room. They said (by e-mail) that they would fix the noisy AC next day, but in 4 days they never did. Toaster didn't work (they managed to replace it). No in-house staff to take care of problems. No info in room about amenities or sites to see in the area. Coffee maker, but no coffee. Fridge tiny. Dirty silverware. Very bumpy driveway.

Lovely location! About 15 miles from Hilo, so close enough to go into town for events or meals, but you get a perfect location for peace and solitude. Sitting at the cliff over 4 days, we didn't see any ships, only a couple of helicopters: nice and quiet. Beautiful house, and check-in was nice and easy. Room came with coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. Cons? slow WiFi, and weak cell service (not their fault, but coupled with the WiFi makes connectivity a challenge). Probably the worst problem is the lack of AC: if it's warm out, your room is hot. There's some breeze, but not enough to get cool at night, and leaving the windows open meant that some gnats got through the screens. We absolutely loved the serenity of the place, and would certainly go back, but not in the heat of summer.

Horrible Place to Stay, We Left After One Night
This hotel was a nightmare. We arrived after dark to a hotel infested with flying bugs. The hotel is a home divided into 8 rental suites. in addition to the bugs we could hear the other guests all night. The unit we stayed in was a 2 bedroom with living area and small kitchen space but only had one window AC unit that was not ducted to the rooms. We had to keep the doors closed to try to keep the bugs from getting into the bedroom (they still did) but this also meant we did not have any AC. The bugs were coming in through huge gaps under the doors. The place was not clean and the furniture was stained and gross. We booked 3 nights and left after the first night.

Serene property!
Good property, Beautiful view and quiet neighborhood. Great for reunions, wedding, family vacation and private parties. Could use better pillows and in-room coffee supplies. Spacious kitchen and dining room for family meals. No staff on site but Jade is great and available via text or phone if needed. Good location about 30 minutes from Hilo.

Not impressed, not hospitality industry standard.
Lovely home that now has an air of being unloved. An expensive facility that has had minimum spent on the rooms to make your stay comfortable. Being so far from any facilities, it leaves you with a negative feeling when there isn’t any coffee or tea for the small appliances available. The wifi is slow and signal is weak and constantly drops out making it useless. The comfortable bed was the only positive feature and, arriving wet and cold, the only way to get warm! The lasting impression is that of an owner who doesn’t care and just wants to maximize income!

Nice property, building and location. Right on the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Room and facilities are different story. No AC. A fan that barely runs, very poor ventilation.. and cockroaches. Shared kitchen, not much utensils..

Roaches!
The outside of the property and the view were amazing! The problem was roaches and ants. At least 2 roaches climbed up my leg while walking ion the bedroom rug.

Absolutely beautiful ocean view and grounds! Very comfortable bed and nice sheets! Could use more pillows. Large room. Water in sink was extremely slow to become hot. No AC, but with fans and breeze from windows it was comfortable. Wonderful location near waterfalls and Hilo. For the price, it was worth the stay.

Amazing!
It is a true beauty! We got the penthouse. It was just superb. Very clean, it had everything we needed for our one night stay. A small kitchen, two full bathrooms, two bedrooms, an amazing view. Some reviews stated that there were lots of bugs. I called before booking and inquired. I was told that they sprayed and all was taken care of. It was true. However, keep in mind, that when you open the balcony door and leave it open, bugs will come in, especially at night. All windows had screens. I brought mosquito repellent just in case. I did spray my kids and myself before going to bed (just in case). My family truly enjoyed the stay. The penthouse was very spacious and it was relaxing to sip coffee early in the morning at the balcony with green trees/grass and blue ocean as a view! The beds were very relaxing!

Gem near Hilo
The house is beautiful inside & out. The sheets & towels were soft & the bed was very comfortable. Checkin/checkout was convenient via text. No on site management was needed. The only thing which could be improved upon was there were only two very small pillows on the bed. Everything else was fantastic.

This was a beautiful large home surrounded by wonderful gardens overlooking the ocean cliffs. Very peaceful and quiet. Felt right at home as we used the kitchen each morning to cook breakfast, relaxed on the patio and walked the grounds. Great location for exploring the Island. It was well located for making trips to Hilo, the botanical gardens many waterfalls and the drive to Mauna Kea. This would be a beautiful place for a family gathering, wedding or group of friends renting the entire facility.

Unexpected Experience
I spent one night at Oceanfront Legacy in late January. I have to say that it was an unconventional, somewhat disappointing experience. It's such an odd style of building for Hawaii, striving to be opulent yet not particularly well crafted. There was absolutely no face-to-face interaction with staff/owners. I was sent a code for access via text. The kitchen was available for use, yet there were no dishes, cookware or cutlery to be found. Pillows had virtually no bulk. On the more positive side, my room was spacious, ceiling fan functional, the bed firm and made with crisp bedding, and the bathroom quite nice.

Beautiful property - Would do it again
This is a nice property overlooking the ocean. Beautiful house and property. The room was huge, basically like a one-bedrm apt. There was both a private and a common kitchen with cooking utensils. It was definitely well worth the stay and experience. There is even laundry facilities onsite. Only thing people need to be aware is that it is about 15mi from downtown Hilo and no stores nearby so bring food for meals unless people are going to drive back and forth! The manager was very helpful over the phone prior to the stay, lots of helpful info and responsive. Didn't see anybody onsite though but we didn't need one. Probably the only improvement needed is cleaning the kitchen cabinets since there were bug droppings.

-Positive: looks luxurious from the outside -Needs improvement: Only one towel per room and not clean stains on the bed Flat uncomfortable pillows No AC, only ceiling fans but because of that had to keep windows open, and honestly did not feel safe here Mosquitoes-can’t sit outside, lizards in the room Next to a highway so all night you will listen to cars driving by. Weak WiFi In addition, when they give you check in instructions they inform you that there is no manager on site. So you get what you get. If they find snakes in Hawaii it will be in this hotel.

Totally Beautiful and quitet.
Very self managed, beautiful and quiet. For the price rate you can not beat the deal. It is about 11 miles back to Hilo area for shopping and dining. I read the other reviews and yes there could be more pillows but get over it. The communication was great by telephone. I would go back and hope it is still offered on Hotels.com. in the future.

The huge mansion with great ocean view
Before I booked this resort, I did read some bad reviews about this hotel or resort. But I want to try it because the pictures on their website are so attractive. When I got here I realized that I made a right decision. The unit is very spacious. The landscape is beautiful.We have a big terrace on the back that with great ocean view. Fairly speaking the house does need a bit work to maintain and clean,but it has all you need as a resort. The most important point is the price. I got over I paid.

Pros: Beautiful, easy to find location, with georgous view! Great parking! The entrance is stunning, and the back yard was fantastic! Cons: room itself was underwhelming. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows need to be replaced, and upgraded sheets would have been fantastic. Both my husband and i ended up rolling up a towel since the pillows aere so bad. The patio is shared, so i was startled when the couple next to us were suddenly right outside our window, and we had left the blinds open since the view was so beautiful. Yes, there were a few bugs, 2 we killed ourselves, the other 2 were so high on the ceiling we couldn't get to them. We would stay again, but bring our own pillows.

House is nice with great views overlooking water. But it is a no frills type of vacation rental. There is no concierge or manager on site. The place is fine if you don't expect a traditional hotel stay. Also the location is a bit remote and out of the way if you prefer to stay closer to town, I suggest forget staying in Hilo altogether and just stay on the Kona side unless you like nature and the greenery.

Incredible. You would be silly not to stay here. Gorgeous estate with amazing views. No need for an onsite manager. Easy to find and right across the Umauma Experience. 20 mins to Hilo. Have breakfast on the balcony. Absolutely worth it. Pictures do not do it justice.

Comfy bed but no air conditioning.
We got it gor a great rate and now I know why. King size bed was very firm and comfortable. Disappointed to find that it was not air conditioned. Had a one speed ceiling fan. Bathroom walls needed to be cleaned. No hotel staff. It had kitchen amenities if you wanted to make your own meals.
