Excellent North Shore Fun Place with a Great Rate

The Kalani Private Residence/Resort is pretty easy to get to, with an excellent location situated very close to great beaches. Bernie, the owner, is extremely accessible, helpful, knowledgeable and super friendly and goes out of his way to make sure your needs are met. I can't say enough nice things about him-he is the best host I've ever encountered at any property. The place is cleaned daily, is very neat and tidy, and is many steps above the quality and cleanliness of other "hostel" type places I've been to. Though I didn't use them, there are great private rooms/apartments/house that I'll plan for future visits. Common areas are very nice, roomy, and kept clean. Lots of parking, but a bit crowded for Pipeline Masters Dec 8-20th, but it's crowded with like-minded surf fans. Great for making new friends and really getting to know the North Shore/Sunset/Pupukea community.

5/5 Excellent

I loved it, staff was great, house was very clean and always smelled nice. Food was always close, I could get açai bows just 2 minutes away and the beach was also 2 minutes away. Overall, I had a great experience!

The quiet singles or couples resort

I stayed in the dorms so can't really comment on the comfort of the private rooms but the dorms were excellent. (I'm not too much into frills so take that for what it's worth). The atmosphere is quite different from the city (quiet) but very close to all the beaches and areas you want to explore. The dorm setting allows you to actually meet your fellow travelers and talk with people from all over the world. (My trip allowed me to meet people from Ireland, Canada, Switzerland, and the US). There is a community kitchen where you can cook your own food (you gotta clean up after yourself), dining and rest area, gardens, and places to view the sunset. If you don't like driving much there is a bus that stops at the end of the driveway that can take you all over the island (it's a big island so it will take a while, 3 hours, but it's a scenic trip). So, it's a great place to stay for singles or couples with the standard rules that most Hostels have and at a price that's very affordable.

Pros: Quiet and good location

Cons: Nothing

Amazing place to stay!

The grounds were breathtaking, room was lovely & comfortable, the shared space was quiet, but a great place to interact with other travelers if you feel inclined. The staff was very friendly & helpful with suggestions for activities & local attractions. I hated to leave. I hope to return at some point, & I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I do.
