Run down and unprofessional

The door as we entered was battered and looked more like a rec centre door. The. Smell of chlorine overwhelms as you enter and can be smelled in the hallways. I was confused by the people at the desk. I guess one was the check-in girl, but there was another man who began commenting and speaking to me. I assume he was a manager, perhaps, but his clothing was really ill fitting and did not look professional. Later that night there was a bigger group at the desk, and they were all very friendly and began making friendly comments or answering my question to the girl at the desk, but I am still unsure who they were. They seemed to be hanging out at the desk. Perhaps the lack of uniform was throwing me off. Doesn't have to be fancy, even a polo, but all staff in the same apparrel seems professional. Also, if they are working, they might want to rethink the "hanging around" and socializing at the front desk. I felt like I was interrupting their chats. They were friendly about it, but went back to socializing right away.
The place was run down. Lumpy duvets, fridge with broken shelves and broken thermostat control (froze our drinks even after adjusting for the directions given. The shower curtain had a threadbare bottom, and the towels were scratchy and not soft at all. I wasn't expecting fancy, just clean and well-cared for.
