A wonderful make-over of an older hotel

Pros: Convenient downtown location, warm cookies on arrival, the unique shower set-up in the room, beautiful decor in the lobby & guest rooms & breakfast!
Cons: -Update the in-room dining menus -The heat seemed a bit hard to control. One degree's difference in setting seemed to make it way too hot or too cold.
Location: Very central to a number of amazing bars and restaurants. Easy to walk to just about everything - even in winter!
The check-in process was easy and the staff was super-friendly, yet professional. The room we received at first was not like the one depicted in the online photos (different configuration) and we called down and the front desk attendant came up with a new key to the right kind of room right away. The rooms are beautifully refurbished (we had seen them before) and very comfortable. Our move to the room on the eighth floor offered an expansive view of the waterfront and the harbour. We loved that we had a small kitchen area and the rain shower was wonderful. While we didn't need all of the space the suite offered, it would be perfect for a longer-term stay or for a family to share. It's all the extras of a suite, at the same price as a standard hotel room! There were even wine glasses in the kitchen so we didn't have to call down and get them brought up, which was a nice touch for celebrating a special occasion. We ordered room-service in the afternoon from Ryan Duffy's downstairs and it was just OK. It was a little frustrating that the in-room menu did not at all match the actual menu because we took some care to decide what we wanted and then had to make our choices on the fly over the phone once we learned that nothing we had chosen was on the current menu. The bed was heavenly and breakfast was great. So often buffet breakfasts don't hit the mark but this one was wonderful! The gentleman who offered to make us omelettes did a beautiful job! All in all, a great stay.

Pros: Reception staff were incredibly helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
Cons: I wish the kitchen area had utensils or paper towels.
Location: Two doors down from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. A nice breakfast and lunch sandwich place across the street on weekdays for those on a budget.

Pros: We loved the view of the Harbour. It is in a very convenient part of town.
Cons: The staff was a little cranky. They did not seem happy to be there. Communication with them was limited.
Location: It's in downtown Halifax. Within walking distance to restaurants, shops, the Boardwalk. It was safe and bustling at times. Fun place.

Location: Citadel is within 10 minutes walk, and the Farmer's Market as well. Lots of restaurants, all easily within walking distance.
Staff was friendly, the room was spacious. The hotel is very well situated in downtown Halifax, just a block up from the boardwalk. A short walk to get the ferry over to Dartmouth. The only negative I had was the sign in front was hard to see when we arrived (early evening), so we ended up circling the block to get back. Self-serve parking was across the street, maybe a mild inconvenience but that's about the worst I can think of.
