Hotel was no different than the most expensive one

Posted Mar 29, 2017
Pros: Everything was there, and was near everything downtown
Cons: would like to see cheaper parking
Location: It is in the hub of the acton of Spring Garden Road, just around the corner
From checking in to checking out, everything went well. Had a fire alarm, everyone met in lobby. Staff handled it well to ensure everyone was out of the rooms.

A Great Rest Spot in Halifax

Posted Mar 29, 2017
Pros: Its location and the comfortable bed
Cons: I would like an easy chair to sit in and a compatible footstool.
Location: The hotel is close to Spring Garden Road. It was an easy walk to St. Matthews United Church on Barrington. This church is very old.
The Lord Nelson Hotel is well located close to the Public Gardens and Spring Garden Road. The new renovations are well done and the bed is very comfortable. There were some disturbing noises in the night. The noises were hard to detect but appeared to come in the pipes leading to the room. I would have appreciated an armchair to relax in when I returned to the hotel. The only chair was one on wheels which slid speedily on the wooden floor. The large television screen was wonderful. It was a pleasure to stay at the Lord Nelson.

Room not ready on time. Unpleasant staff.

Posted Mar 27, 2017
Pros: Room was clean and beds were comfortable.
Cons: Be upfront about breakfast costs and what is included. Parking didn't have elevators. If you are late in cleaning, take ownership and be pleasant.
Location: There was a lot of things close by the hotel. Great location.
Checked in after the check in time and the room was not ready. They told me I had to pay $40 more a night if I wanted a room on time as they didn't know when mine would be clean. They told me if I wanted the room on time I should have called. My daughter walked up to the nice gentleman that was working there and he got us a room, after I tried for 20 minutes. Although it lists that breakfast was included (with a surcharge) - the surcharge turned out to be the entire cost of the breakfast so it really isn't included. Everything had additional costs. Got the bill with costs I don't know what they were for. The room was clean but the walls were very thin so noise travelled.

Be ware of the parking garage.

Posted Mar 19, 2017
Cons: I would not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling alone with a vehicle unless they improve the safety of parking garage
The Lord Nelson is a beautiful hotel and centrally located in Halifax- a great reason to stay. My concern was primarily the parking garage. You might not think about this if you were travelling with someone else, but as a women travelling alone with a vehicle, the parking garage was an uncomfortable experience. Once I parked the car that is when my irritation started. First there was no indication WHERE you were parked- no number system to orient yourself so you could find your vehicle again. No lettering- nothing, You just parked and hoped you could remember when you went back down there where you car actually was. It was not easy to find my way to the hotel. The signage was poor to say the least, As a women with luggage walking around by herself -back and forth trying to find a way out- it was unnerving, At one point I realized I wasn't alone and at that moment I felt the tingle of concern in the back of my neck. I finally found my way in and was surprised that once again I was walking alone through a maze of halls with absolutely no one else around. I normally don't feel a sense of relieve when I find the hotel lobby- but in this hotel I did. That night returning to the car was no less thrilling. I took the elevator down to what I thought was the parking garage, the doors opened to another hall way- and as I excited I was face to face with a man - who I am unsure was even at the hotel- he was wandering around in the hall- no directions on how to get to the cars

Dear Anonymous., Thank you , so much for completing this online survey. I also want to thank you for expressing your concerns about our parking lot. Unfortunately, underground parking is a neccessity in downtown Halifax. In, the future I would recommend that you take advantage of our valet parking. I do apologize for your concerns with the signage as well and inform you that will we work hard to improve this. I appreciate your feedback and do look forward to seeing you again, soon. Sincerely, Patricia

Central location

Posted Mar 17, 2017
Pros: Grand lobby. Modern and comfortable business centre with excellent internet connection.
Cons: Given the cold winters, it would be great if the beds came with warm comforters or duvets instead of sheets with blankets.
Location: Everything is walkable as the location is downtown Halifax. It's at least a 20-25 minute walk to the waterfront so hail a cab during inclement weather
We asked for a renovated room and were given a newly renovated room on the 9th floor. It was clean, adequately spacious with comfortable beds. The room temperature was cool and although we adjusted the thermostat it seemed to reset itself to a default. We asked for extra covers and received these promptly.

Great Location!

Posted Mar 16, 2017
Pros: Location is good, shopping and restaurants are just around the corner. Stay away from Smitty's, unless you are wanting to punish yourself.
Cons: Pricing of the rooms should be reviewed, this hotel is going through some upgrades so I suppose this is how they pay for it.
Location: Great location, we were able to visit Citidel Hill, Farmers Market, Museums, Graveyards and we even caught a taping of This Hour Has 22 Minutes!
Right off the bat, I'll say that I feel I was overcharged for the room I was given. The room was OK, very small bathroom that did not have a fan and the room floors were laminate..cold in the morning, not my favorite. We found that the location was great as we were in Halifax to take in all the sights, there's a ton of places all within walking distance and if you needed to take a cab, they were reasonably priced ( we cabbed it to Fairview cemetery to see the Titanic graves and the cab ride was about $24 round trip) When we wanted to rent a car for the day, the people at Budget were very helpful, they came to the hotel to pick us up and we were at Peggy's Cove in no time!

Great location.

Pros: Its location.
Centrally located across from Public Gardens and adjacent Citadel Hill. Pleasant staff, clean room, somewhat like European hotels in an 'understated' way.

Dissapointing experience. Noisy, not well cleaned, outdated room. The lobby is beautiful, though. Great restaurant.

Dear Amy, Thank you, completing this online survey. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed on your recent stay. I want to assure you that this is not a typical experience at the Lord Nelson. We are in the midst of a major renovation and perhaps may explain the noise. The next time you are in Halifax, please reach out to me and I will happy to upgrade your room. Sincerely, Patricia
