This hotel has the potential to be superb , great location and iconic 80s look to the exterior However it is rather tired once you get past the foyer . The rooms are in need of refurbishment, at the least recarpeting and redecorating . My bathroom had for example cracked floor tiles , furniture is dated and had chips and marks and there were dead insects in the picture frame Staff were ok but the front desk wasn't manned when I arrived and I had to wait several minutes , nor was the bar later that evening, there was an even longer wait for that and when served a bottle of mineral water was £3.80

Total Disappointment

Pros: Staff made every attempt to be helpful and cheerful but there aren't enough of them to cope, under invested all round.
A mistake booking and staying at this run down hotel that makes no attempt to hold on to its star rating which now is probably running at 3* if truth be told. It starts at the front door when you ask if they have a porter, to be told he's upstairs somewhere, this was followed by one receptionist who was overworked and had a queue 3 long and the only way we could get a twin bed room was pay an extra £20 per night for something described as a Delux but was far from it. The windows aren't effectively double glazed, allowing the cold and the road noise in ALL NIGHT , the bathroom was in need of a makeover, with ground in dirt and brown lime scale staining in the loo. I thought that old seventies trick of putting an empty tissue box in the bathroom and ramming three tissues in the top to pretend it's full was a thing of the past but not here. Poorly fitting carpets in the room, shower that leaked over the floor and brick built beds , I'm sure they are cheap and so hard they will never wear out, but customer comfort has never been a factor when these rock hard beds were purchased. The restaurant food was not good, don't try to eat there, Southampton has hundreds of restaurants that offer edible food, ours wasn't, very expensive and very offensive. The staff try their very best but there aren't enough of them to be able to offer a good service. I have offered many compliments on this site when we have been pleased, but would suggest steer clear of this awful hotel, too expensive for

Pros: not much
Cons: a lot
Location: only one night so location did not matter much
Expensive room with extras piled on! you would not normally expect to pay extra £10 per night for car parking in a so called four star hotel. We were given a disabled room with 2 small single beds, wc rolls ran out, no milk for tea in the morning. breakfast, not a good choice of food and cold, £15 each!

Pros: Great Location.
Cons: The hotel is big enough to create a few cosier areas. More vegetarian options on menu please.
Location: Location is brilliant...Frequent Hythe Ferry across to New Forest where you can hire bicycles. Great cosmopolitan City.
A great hotel to enjoy our Ruby wedding anniversary.

Over rated hotel

Pros: Location
Cons: Housekeeping
Location: Handy for exploring the old parts of Southampton
We stayed four nights and our room was never properly cleaned, particularly the bathroom. The restaurant was very expensive so we ate out for every meal. For a hotel that once enjoyed a five star rating, it was a great disappointment.

Thin walls and broken door handles

Pros: The swimming pool's quite nice.
Cons: Cleanliness, state of repair, sound insulation.
I stay in Southampton on business fairly regularly, and I like to swim in the evenings after work, so the Grand Harbour looked like a good choice. It wasn't. The room I was put in was pretty disappointing. The inner bathroom door handle was hanging off (swaying gently on its one remaining screw), and there were visible bits of dirt in the bath itself -- I had to wash it before I used it. The walls of the hotel are extremely thin, so not only could I hear my neighbour singing along to her radio the night I arrived (I could hear every word), but I was also woken by her radio at 6am (again, I could hear EVERY. SINGLE. WORD), which was still nattering away at her when I left at 9. No sleep-in for me! I had also been put into a room in which the bathroom was designed for a disabled customer, which meant that the sink was extremely low and the bath had a sort of step arrangement in it which made lying down impossible, particularly for someone of 6 feet in height. Similarly the sink only cleared my knees by three inches or so, which made brushing my teeth awkward. Of course hotels ought to have rooms that cater to disabled customers, but perhaps able-bodied customers (who might be unusually tall!!!) ought to be asked if they're happy to stay in these rooms and offered the opportunity to cancel if nothing else is available. I won't be staying at Grand Harbour again.

We stayed here for a night recently before going on a cruise... the hotel had a water leak and the manager handled the situation horrendously, we were offered 50% discount and I've still not received that. (Paid up front)
