A hotel as tired as we were

Posted Jan 5, 2016
Pros: The service at the front desk and in the bar was very good.
Cons: This facility is well behind the times in all areas. If it is to continue as a Hilton it needs to be bulldozed and rebuilt.
Location: Location is very convenient for shopping.
We checked in 30 minutes after the scheduled check in time. The rooms were not fully ready due to no pillow cases. The heaters in the rooms are old electric space heaters with no proper thermostats. Just on and off and 1-5 which is not adequate to regulate the temperature. The carpet had multiple stains on it. The bathroom fan was very loud and I doubt was very efficient due to the dirt buildup which needed cleaning. The maid service was inconsistent, the first night we had to ask for more than one towel on the second day one of the bath towels was taken off the floor and hung up as if clean/new. Shampoo and soap replacement was also inconsistent. The maid also left the window open which was a potential security problem since our room was on the ground floor. The room decor was tired.

Hotel is comfortable and clean, but I think could do with a refurb. The wifi was £12.99 for 24 hours in my room, which I think is very dear. Overall ok for a short stay.

Much better than expected

Was pleasantly surprised at the Basingstoke Hilton. I was expecting it to be considerably more tired, however the room, bathroom and communal areas were clean and quite modern. Not standard Hilton, but certainly good enough and great value. Would happily stay again.

very nice stay but some updating needed

Posted Oct 12, 2015 on Hotels
Room was decent - iron and ironing board provided. Freeview on TV, no sky sports, bathroom was fine with shower over bath. Usual Hilton toiletries provided. Breakfast was excellent and we dined on the Friday evening in the restaurant which was really nice especially as they allow the use of Tastecard with 50% food discount. The bar was pleasant but expensive, overall the staff were very good. Hotel is at least a mile from the centre so if you don't have a car, there's a public footpath which takes you in nearby. Hotel was clean enough but they could do with some new nets in the conservatory! Overall for the price - about £60 each night BnB (for 2)this was good vfm.

We reported a bad smell on entering the room. Had to complain twice before anyone came. Somewhat unlikely explanation given but we were leaving after that so don't know if problem rectified . Breakfast very good

This place smelld REALLY bad! They tell you it's because of fire retardant and it will go away. It doesn't and s co-worker stayed a couple of weeks after me and was given the same excuse. Not to normal Hilton standards.

One Night Stopover

Posted Sep 21, 2015
Pros: Well placed, good parking and well presented.
Cons: For a hotel probably used by business travellers, I was surprised that breakfast didn't start until 7-00 am.
Location: I didn't need to go out
Reception staff efficient. The room was OK and bed comfortable. Food was good, but overall the hotel is a bit expensive for what it is, in my view.

Stayed there twice. The first time the room was not very good and the bathroom was dirty. The Receptionist gave us a room on the 1st floor with heavy suitcases and no lift. On the second visit, and much better room on the ground floor. Good breakfasts a day easy parking.
