Good location, but hotel tired and sloppy service.

Posted Jul 3, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Attention to detail.
Great location but upon arrival the room was full of flies which was very off putting. There wasn't a problem with changing rooms and a comfortable night was had. We had breakfast the next morning and found the staff overwhelmed with the amount of guests. Our group of four were placed on a table for two which was completely unsatisfactory and we had to ask for two tables to be put together . The crockery we were given was stained which was unnecessary and sloppy. However with all these issues, the staff responded immediately and resolved any problems.

Neat historic, renovated Georgian Manor House.

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: Historic history. That Jane Austen stayed there. The cathederal and the WWII memorial to the Blitz of Southampton. Just everything.
Cons: ?? 0!
Location: See above
Right in the middle of a preserved historic area. Plenty of shops, pubs and eateries within easy walking distance. Short pleasing walk to the historic waterfront where settlers to the New World departed. Beautiful moument across from the boat basin and several pubs with outside seating to enjoy dinner or a 'pint'. Uptown the Maritime and Sea Museum is outstanding, with the most interesting exhibit on the most famous ship to have departed there - the Titanic. Great park two blocks away with many memorials (great photos to be had) related to Southampton's legacy as a seaport and commerce center. Could not more highly recommend a better place to stay, oh!! the ajoining resteraunt is superb for breakfast or dinner or . . . lunch. Just a great feature! Check it out, we will, if ever in Southampton again!!

One nighter before cruise

Posted Jun 5, 2015
I would recommend this hotel for cruisers. It is a 10 minute walk to gate 1 of the port. We were awoken early by the church bells that are right next door. The room had some work done to it and it wasn't properly vacuumed before we entered but other than that it was a nice room.

Pros: polite staff good food
Location: city centre, close to shops and plenty of places to eat
We arrived early but our room was already made up for us. Staff were welcoming and told us everything we needed to know. We took the inclusive of breakfast option and were pleased we did; plenty of choice and very fresh. Staff were polite and friendly.

Dolphin Hotel hosted Jane Austen's 18th birthday

Posted May 24, 2015 on Hotels
Hotel with some historic roots. Located right on the High Street. Convenient for the ferry dock. We took a taxi to get to the pier for an ocean cruise. Series of buildings joined together over the years so in some places many steps but the rooms are updated. Lift available. Enjoyed convenience of restaurant in the hotel. Beds were extremely soft. For one night tolerable but not as comfortable as one would wish.
