Tired hotel needs renovating. Room fine but noisy floorboards everywhere. Pigeon muck on windowsill.

Central location, low standard

Posted Sep 3, 2016
Pros: The reception staff were friendly and the breakfast quite good.
Cons: The rooms and ensuite need refurbishing and air conditioning provided to justify the rates charged.
Location: Good access to a walk around old town, city walls, restaurants/bars and check out the passenger liners in dock.
The hotel was in a good location, close to restaurants, old Southampton town and shopping district. Reception staff were friendly and inviting. The room was very outdated and below standard for Mercure. The paint on the wall was cracked and peeling, the carpet stained, the floor squeaked and the room stuffy, with the portable cooler unable to cope. The ensuite also needed updating as the painted shelving was poor. The breakfast was quite good. Overall poor value for money as high Mercure rates still charged.

Hotel well situated for ferry bus to trains walking distance of town football ground & shops.Stayed on holiday. Only complaint not enough drawer or wardrobe space for length of stay. Size of room dining room bar & lounge areas fine. Excellent breakfast each morning. Staff helpful & sociable gave for a pleasant atmosphere

Will never stay there again

No air conditioning. Lots of stairs to deal with luggage. Old and creepy. Paint smell in room. Dirty chair cousins in dining room. So so food. Overall dingy. Very disappointed. Flew all the was from USA for cruise. Was told could see port and cruise-ship from hotel. Not true. Had to take taxi from hotel to port. Other nicer hotels in vicinity

Hot room, no air-conditioning, droopy bed but good pillows. Overall impression: needs more than a paint job.
